What else would a midwife do if she is supposed to be on vacation? She would meet a surprise set of twin girls. What was supposed to be another large single baby was actually two little girls. First baby breech @ 7:52pm and second baby head down 10:10pm. Daddy just kept saying “I’m more blessed than I deserve to be!” ❤️ happy birthday sweet girls! 5 # 11ozs and 6 # 5ozs

The little prince joins two big sisters! Sometimes one of the hardest realities for a woman is experiencing a prior short, fast birth, and then having the following birth, be long, hard, and grueling. Not because labor is all that much different. It’s all always just childbirth. But the mental strain of processing that shift and surrendering to a longer labor than you expect, can be a very heavy challenge. But mama rocked her home water birth!

This was baby #4 for this mommy. 42 weeks of waiting resulted in this mom experiencing a spontaneous start to labor for the first time. No castor oil. No herbal intervention. No stripping sweep. No Pitocin. Just patience. She got to experience her water bag breaking on its own for the first time. She got to experience her labor progressing without intervention for the first time. She got to follow her body and her intuition and had her baby in a 2 1/2 hour labor! No fuss. No extra mess. No fear. Just birth. And it was beautiful.

First time mom. 4 hours of super easy and relaxed labor. Mom goes to p*e, and discovers that there’s a baby coming out. Pain free birth. Breathed her baby out with only the fetal ejection reflex—- so no forced pushing. Baby born en caul. Daddy caught with the midwife on the phone because no one imagined that she was anywhere close to having a baby and thought labor was just getting started. Mom and baby are both great! Thanks to Dottie for the assist!

It’s a great day for a birthday baby girl! This birth was precious. Momma labored for hours at home before opting for pain management and elected to transfer to the hospital. No emergency. Just a tired mom who needed some extra help and support. I called ahead. The staff wasn’t happy with the situation: a failed homebirth with a LAY-midwife was coming in. When we arrived, the staff was very respectful of my clients. That was my only concern. After the epidural was placed and mom was resting, the conversations were very respectful and extremely progressive. Preferences and desires were noted and discussed and fully informed consent was obtained both for staff and the couple. As mom birthed on a hospital bed in a beautiful hands off squat position, I verbally walked daddy through catching the baby and handing her up to mommy. The staff remained hands off as I talked mom and daddy through the first few minutes of their new daughter’s arrival and then realized that the hospital staff—the OB, the PA, and two nurses were following my lead and following my instructions! Me… the LAY-midwife was lead. No license. No college. No hospital privileges. Yet here I was mentoring an obstetric team of highly qualified hospital staff. Their response: we don’t get to see that kind of birth at all. Thank you for that. God is so good. 🥹

42 weeks of waiting brought this mommy to her beautiful home water birth moment! This Midwife was honored to walk this mommy through the steps of reaching down to greet her own baby and bring his full head of blonde hair up to her chest. Little man did require some extra stimulation and a midwife kiss to get that first breath going but no stress and no panic and no fear were involved. Only the blessing and the beauty of the moment remained when his precious little cry filled the room.
