June 17, 2026, 4:45 PM: Today, at around 10:52 a.m., the Bozeman Police Department responded to the 300 block of E Griffin Dr., just west of N Rouse Ave., for a reported vehicle versus bicyclist collision. Upon arrival, it was quickly determined that the bicyclist, a 9-year-old girl, had died from injuries sustained in the crash. The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office/Coroner will release the deceased child’s name at a later date.

Several drivers witnessed the collision and later provided statements to law enforcement. The driver of the vehicle involved stopped immediately and is cooperating with the investigation.
“It is with heavy hearts that we share this update. The loss of a child is a tragedy. Our deepest condolences go out to the friends, family, and truly the entire community, as we are all impacted by this loss,” said Bozeman Police Chief Jim Veltkamp.

This incident is currently being investigated by detectives from the Bozeman Police Department, along with assistance from the Montana Highway Patrol. Preliminary findings indicate the girl was riding westbound on the south side of Griffin Dr., then made an abrupt turn northbound across Griffin Dr. in front of the westbound vehicle.

“We appreciate Bozeman Fire Department, Montana Highway Patrol, American Medical Response, and the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance during this event,” Veltkamp stated.

Today, at around 7:41 a.m., the Bozeman Police Department responded to West Oak St., near the Gallatin Regional Park, for a reported vehicle versus pedestrian collision.

Several individuals witnessed the collision, later providing statements to law enforcement personnel. Life-saving measures were started on the pedestrian, who was later transported to Bozeman Health Deaconess for advanced medical care. Tragically, the pedestrian succumbed to their injuries and was declared deceased.

The name of the deceased pedestrian will be released at a later time by the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office/Coroner.

This incident is currently being investigated by detectives from the Bozeman Police Department, along with assistance from the Montana Highway Patrol. Preliminary findings indicate a passenger vehicle was travelling west on Oak Street and failed to stop for the pedestrian in a posted pedestrian crosswalk, striking them.

“The Bozeman Police Department extends their deepest condolences to all those affected by this tragic loss of life. Thank you to the Bozeman Fire Department, Montana Highway Patrol, American Medical Response, and the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance during this event,” said Bozeman Police Chief Jim Veltkamp.

A structure fire in Fort Ellis was tackled by swift, professional response by Fort Ellis Fire Department and neighboring departments that assisted with mutual aid.
