You know that feeling when you walk into your house, kick off your shoes, and just... exhale? Like your whole body goes "okay, we made it."
That's grounded. And it's an actual feeling, not just a buzzword.
Not happy, not fixed, not "everything is great now." Just here. Present. Like your feet actually exist and the floor is real and you're okay right now, in this moment.
The Feelings Wheel used in therapy puts grounded inside peaceful for a reason. It's not a big dramatic shift. It's quiet. It's subtle. It's your nervous system sending a signal that says we're okay right now.
The thing is, a lot of us blow right past it. We feel it for about 30 seconds and then we're already onto the next thing on the list.
But here's what I tell clients all the time: if you felt it, even for five minutes today, that counts. Your body did exactly what it's supposed to do.
The noticing is the practice.
When's the last time you actually caught it? 🌿

This Earth Day, let’s take a moment to appreciate the gift of grounding. šŸŒŽ
When life gets busy, and we spend so much time indoors, grounding (and specifically grounding outdoors) allows us to help regulate our nervous system and somatically experience our surroundings and connection. We literally get to feel the Earth and return to the present moment. In practice, this could look like:
šŸžļø Taking your shoes off and feeling the grass, sand, or floor beneath your feet
šŸƒ Noticing the gentle breeze of the air outside, or the rain on your skin
🧘 Feeling the weight of your body as you sit in a chair or on the ground
Swipe through for more ideas, and save this post for the next time you’re feeling overwhelmed and need a reminder to try grounding. Your mind and body will thank you. 🧠😌

šŸ—£ļø Calling all therapists…
Times are tough right now economically for us, just like it is for our clients. It’s no secret that mental healthcare isn’t as high-paying a field as other sectors of healthcare for the amount of time it takes to earn your degree and then licensing afterward. There’s a finite number of clients we can see per week, and then burnout can start to catch up. This isn’t a field to go into for the money, but that doesn’t change the reality that we have our own bills to pay so we can keep showing up for our clients and people in our personal lives.
If you are feeling financial stress, you are not failing. You are still showing up every day for yourself and your clients as you navigate a broken system behind the scenes. That takes strength, motivation, and resilience. šŸ’Ŗ
Therapists, what has helped you navigate financial stress or ease some of the financial burden? Let’s help support our peers as we navigate this economy together.

Feelings Part 39: Withdrawn ā˜øļø
When ā€œI just need alone timeā€ is more than meets the eye.
Some days you just want to treat inward or reset, and that’s normal. It’s important to take time for yourself to recharge, do the things you care about, and destress. But there’s a difference between healthy solitude and withdrawal that is disconnecting you from the world around you.
If you start to notice a pattern of not wanting to communicate with other people regularly, ignoring calls and texts, canceling plans, not wanting to leave the house, or sleeping more than usual due to low energy, those can be signs of withdrawal. That’s more than being introverted.
It’s important to check in and be honest with yourself about what you’re experiencing because if it’s the latter, withdrawal can be a sign of depression.
If this sounds like you, please consider reaching out to a mental health professional for added support. If you live in Florida or Illinois, you can book a free intro call with Lori through the link in bio.

If the symbol ; means something to you, know that you are not alone.
Today is World Semicolon Day. The semicolon is a symbol in the mental health community that signifies that your story isn’t over. It’s a symbol of hope, resilience, and acknowledges the battle people have faced around su!c!de, depression, and self-h@rm.
We have seen a variety of artwork, tattoos, and inspiration around the semicolon. If you are open to sharing, we would love to see and learn how the semicolon has transformed into new meaning for you.

When anxiety takes over, our bodies have a difficult time differentiating between what is a ā€œrealā€ threat versus what’s not.

How does your nervous system react to a perceived threat?

Feelings Part 38: Anxious ā˜øļø 😟
Do any of these sound like you?
ā–«ļøConstant worrying
ā–«ļø Difficulty sleeping
ā–«ļø Needing reassurance
ā–«ļø Trouble concentrating and staying in the present moment
ā–«ļø Avoidance
If you said yes to any of these, you may be feeling anxious.
Anxiety can show up in many parts of our lives, from our internal thoughts to how we communicate with other people. Some anxiety is a normal response to a stressful situation. But when our body and mind run on autopilot in anxiety mode, there is usually more under the surface. The root can sometimes be fear, uncertainty, insecurity, perfectionism, or a lack of control.
