When hurricanes strike, community health centers play a critical role in ensuring patients continue to receive care when they need it most.

We are proud to recognize Geoffery Cordes, DHA, MHSA, CPPS, CHC Cordes, Director of Health Center Operations at MCR Health, for recently presenting at the 2026 Health Center Emergency Management Summit hosted by the The Florida Association of Community Health Centers, Inc. (FACHC).

Drawing on MCR Health's experience navigating Hurricanes Helene and Milton, Geoff shared lessons learned around operational resilience, emergency response coordination, and maintaining continuity of care during times of crisis. His presentation highlighted the dedication, adaptability, and teamwork that enabled MCR Health to remain a trusted healthcare resource for our communities when it mattered most.

We are grateful to Bishop-Parker Foundation for its recent investment in MCR Health's efforts to explore expanded healthcare access in Myakka.

Through a $37,000 grant, MCR Health will conduct a feasibility study to assess the potential for a future health center serving students, families, and the broader Myakka community.

Today, residents often travel significant distances to access primary and behavioral healthcare services. This study will help us better understand community needs, identify opportunities, and ensure that any future investment is thoughtfully designed to support long-term health and wellness.

As one of the few remaining rural communities in our region, Myakka presents unique challenges—and opportunities—when it comes to healthcare access. We are excited to begin engaging residents, schools, community leaders, and partners as we evaluate how best to serve the community for generations to come.
