Journey Health System (JHS) is proud to announce the results of their first-ever Affiliate-wide Mental Health Awareness Month Art Contest held this May. Over 25 incredible submissions were received from employees, their families, and clients (18+) across Journey Health System and all affiliated agencies. The theme, "There is always help. There is always hope," inspired a vibrant collection of posters, drawings, photo collages, and more.
The artwork powerfully captured messages of openness, acceptance, and resilience, encouraging viewers to challenge mental health stigma. The judging panel was impressed by the creativity and heartfelt expressions displayed throughout the art pieces.
The top three winners, are as follows:
1st Place – “Hope” by Thomas Zdarko, Beacon Light Behavioral Health System PRS Warren Client
2nd Place – “Hands of Hope” by Jerrod Swanson, Forest-Warren Mental Wellness Association Client
3rd Place – “Mental Health Rocks” by Stephanie Soliwoda, Forest-Warren Mental Wellness Association Client
Each winner received prizes and award certificates in recognition of their inspiring work.
Art has the power to heal – to process emotions and connect with others. Additionally, this Mental Health Awareness Month Art Contest, honored and shared artists’ stories of healing through creativity.

Journey Health System supports the following behavioral health affiliates: Beacon Light Behavioral Health Systems, Beacon Light Adult Residential Services, Deerfield Behavioral Health, Dickinson Center, Forest Warren Mental Wellness Association, and Stairways Behavioral Health. The Journey Health System Board of Directors is comprised of representatives from each organization which deliver mental health care to 20 counties across . We are excited to announce the results of Journey Health System's 1st Affiliate-wide held this May! Employees, their families, and clients (18+) from Journey Health System & all our agencies submitted over 25 incredible pieces, including posters, drawings, photo collages, and more.

Beacon Light Behavioral Health System, Beacon Light Adult Residential Services and Journey Health System, held their annual board and donor appreciation event with nearly 60 people on May 21 at in . Agency leaders thanked board members for volunteering, along with the donors in the community for providing philanthropic support toward the agency’s mission.
The program commenced with a prayer by Father Leo Gallina. Joseph Yaros, Journey Health System’s Board Chair, delivered a warm welcome message, followed by an introduction of all of the Board members. Their Boards’ combined total of 335 years of service was applauded.
A Years of Service Milestone Award was presented to Brandon Means for 10 years of service.
The 13th Annual B.E.A.C.O.N. Award was presented to David Ferguson. B.E.A.C.O.N. stands for Being an Enthusiastic Advocate for Community and Organizational Needs and is awarded each year to an individual who exemplifies service to the Beacon Light companies.
“David’s story is, at its core, a story of commitment—commitment to family, to community, and to making a difference wherever he is called to serve,” said Guy Signor, Journey Health System’s President and CEO. “He has helped light the way for Journey Health System’s mission, ensuring that hope, healing, and care reach those who need it most.”
At Journey Health System, David Ferguson has been a guiding light for more than two decades. His steady leadership, thoughtful counsel, and strategic insight have helped shape who Journey Health System is today and where they’re going tomorrow. He has never sought recognition—but instead has quietly, consistently ensured that the organization’s work truly made a difference in the lives of those served.
Ferguson stated, “When Guy first called me about this award, I really didn’t think I deserved it…I found myself truly wishing I could give it to every staff member of Journey Health System. You really change people’s lives and give them hope to move forward.”
Additionally, Beacon Light Behavioral Health System’s Executive Director Jen Gesing recognized the Kiwanis Club of Bradford. For 90 years, their generosity and support ensured that children living in the residential programs received Christmas gifts and holiday celebrations.
Other highlights of the evening included, a Beacon Light Behavioral Health System client’s story and a parent’s testimonial regarding Beacon Light Adult Residential Services.
Tana Smith, Journey Health System’s Director of Institutional Advancement thanked HUB International for co-sponsoring this event, all of the agency’s staff, donors and honorees for their continued support.
Thousands of children and adults have received treatment throughout Beacon Light’s over 120 years of service. Each day, their programs serve approximately 11,000 individuals in some way, and whether it’s in a family therapy session, a structured group home setting, a peer-led journey, or alternative classrooms teaching life skills.

Journey Health System is pleased to announce that Brad Leet, JHS Recruitment & Retention Manager, graduated from the Leadership McKean in Class of 2026 on Thursday, May 20.

Over the past eight months, Brad joined 30 fellow participants in an immersive leadership development experience focused on strengthening community knowledge, collaboration, and civic engagement throughout . The program explored seven key sectors impacting the region, including Government; Healthcare; Workforce, Economic Development & Entrepreneurship; Tourism & Recreation; Human Services; Education; and Arts, Community & Civic Engagement. Brad participated in the Human Services track, further enhancing his leadership and community-focused expertise.

The nomination for Special Circumstances, read: “Jim Ross, a valued member of our Maintenance team at Journey Health System, should be recognized for going above and beyond in his contributions through recent special projects. Jim has demonstrated exceptional skill in both carpentry and masonry, transforming ordinary spaces into something truly remarkable. Most notably, Jim converted a simple drywall structure into a beautiful stone fireplace, showcasing not only craftsmanship but creativity and attention to detail. In addition, he designed and installed a stunning wood feature wall in the former Elkwood Arts space at Dickinson Center, helping to transform it into a welcoming and functional training center for staff and special events. Jim’s work reflects pride, innovation, and a commitment to excellence that directly enhances our environment and supports our mission. His willingness to take initiative and deliver high-quality results makes a lasting impact on our organization.” Thank you Jim!!
