Massage therapy, yoga, dance, and performance space in downtown Brattleboro, VT For me, every massage is a dance. I use they or she pronouns.

I find this to be true both in the grace and fluidity of my movements as I work, and in the presence of deep listening that I enter into as I practice my craft. To every session, I bring generous attention to the feedback your body gives, both verbally and non verbally. I don’t believe in overriding your body’s pain response with excessively deep strokes in a “no pain, no gain” mentality. Instead, I seek to communicate directly with you in a dance of give and take, to find the sweet spot that leaves you feeling refreshed, deeply relaxed, and at ease. I began my massage training at Santa Barbara Bodyworks in Santa Barbara, CA, in 2015. There, I completed over 600hrs of coursework and practice in Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue, Orthopedic Massage, Sports Massage, and more. In 2022 I sought additional training in Reflexology and Oncology Massage, as well as one-on-one coaching to develop my skills in Deep Tissue. In addition to seeing clients of all ages in their homes, I have enjoyed working closely with residents at the Samarkand retirement community, and with the Westmont College Track and Cross Country teams for several seasons. In 2023 I relocated back to my old college stomping grounds in Brattleboro, VT, to be closer to friends and to enjoy the beauty of the seasons. I am a Certified Massage Therapist with the state of California, and Licensed in the state of Vermont. Hannah Ruth Massage is a body positive, LGBTQ+ owned business. I welcome you to tell me yours. It’s been one year! 🙌🏼 Saw my first paying client at the studio a year ago this week. So grateful to have found this beautiful space and to be gifted with the opportunity to work and teach and practice here. Huge thanks to all of you who have come thru, whether to donate furnishings, celebrate its opening, practice yoga, receive healing touch, or just to say hi! 👋🏼 I wouldn’t be here without you.

Stay tuned for Open House take two!
Friday, October 2
4-8pm at the studio
139 Main St 706A
Enter down the alley to check out Soft Spot Gallery and the Professor Joelseff P KleinHamm… then follow the signs! I’ll set up the massage table for folks to lie down on and try out. Thinking about also offering chair massage this time, $20 for 15min… maybe 15min reflexology treatments on the table too… thoughts?

Hands appreciation post… 👐🏼✨

Writing about this on the internet almost feels sacrilege but I’ll give it a go…

These are my hands. Most of us have hands, or parts of us that we use to do the things that hands tend to do. So. Many. Things. They are sensitive. Maybe not the most sensitive parts of our bodies, and yet for most of us, they are packed with the ability to feel so much. Pressure, pain, heat, cool, weight, movement, position in space… water feels different than wind, than stones, than another human’s living body on the table.

Here is a game that I invite you to try. Find a buddy. Ask them to find you a small object, without telling or showing you what it is. Close your eyes and have them place it in your open palm or some other sensing part of your body. With eyes still closed, explore the object through touch. It might take a while. Can you figure out what it is?

So much gratitude for my hands, these hands, that truly make possible the work that I do, the massage work that I love and that feeds me so deeply. Yes, yes, yes. Soft and sensitive and strong. 👐🏼✨

Little behind-the-scenes post… 🧺

Hello friends. I’ve always been one to take a lot of care in keeping my massage linens clean. When I was still a baby massage therapist, living with my parents in Santa Barbara, I remember wanting to be the one to take them out of the dryer every time. I’d wash my hands before touching them (still do!) and then fold them and tuck them away in pillowcases so they’d stay nice and tidy.

Now that I’m a grown up massage therapist, living in Brattleboro and with a studio to tend to, I’ve finally started (as of tonight!) washing my linens at the laundromat. If I could keep washing them at home, I would, but a change in housing has me seeking other options. And actually, after meeting a fellow launderer with a very cute dog, I think it might just be the perfect way to make new friends in this good and funky place.

So this is just to say, hey! I care a lot about all of you who I have the honor of working with on the table. My hope is for you to be comfy, and the way I care for my linens plays a big part in that. I always use a free & clear detergent and no dryer sheets of any kind to avoid extra smells that might bother folks, including myself. If you have any questions about the way I care for my linens, the massage cream I use, or anything else, send me a message or put them in the comments!

Thanks for joining me on this little laundry adventure 👋🏼

ps. neurospicy planner-aheader that I am, I actually did a little survey of all the laundromats of Brattleboro in order to decide which one to try. Let me know if you’re on the hunt and would like me to share my findings!

Hello beautiful people!

Some exciting news: I have begun teaching a new weekly yoga class at Newfane Village Yoga.

Slow & Strong
Thursdays, 6-7pm

Take your time, settle in, and build some heat with this strong, slow vinyasa flow. With plenty of space and encouragement for the generous use of props (bolsters, blankets, blocks, and straps), we will find creative ways to deepen our practice. We’ll begin gently, work up a sweat, and close with a long and luxurious coast down into savasana. Every cue is an invitation. Every breath is your own. Be gentle with yourself. Go at your own pace. Come as you are, and find the yoga that honors the truth of your body.

This class is a great option for all levels of experience, including beginners.

~

This also means that I am putting Friday Prop Empowered Yoga on hold at my studio for now. Big thanks to all of you who came and graced the space with your energy and your practice. If you and a friend or two would like to start up a group class at some other weekly time, just send me a message or comment below. More classes can be added if schedules align.

Today’s view from the office….

I have the honor of teaching yoga a handful of times this month and next for the dear good students of . It just so happens that they are living, studying, and meditating on the former campus of my alma mater, Marlboro College.

It’s strange, being back in the library where I spent so many late nights and hours bent over a book or laptop, studying and writing (and yes, taking naps). The place is dear to me, and yet, it feels very different. Most of the books and the shelves they rested on have vanished, leaving open space.

I think almost all of us who had the privilege of counting ourselves as members of the Marlboro community wish that the college was still there. And yet, it is not. And it most likely never will be again. For me, the path forward seems to be to treasure the meaningful connections I still have with former classmates, professors, and staff members, and express my gratitude for the ways they all helped me to learn and grow so deeply while I was a student there. Marlboro really was a college that changed lives. We must do our best to carry that energy forward.
