Here are the PMH services that will be closed this Monday, September 7. Our main lobby doors will also be closed on Monday. Patients and visitors should use the Emergency Department entrance, which remains open 24/7.

We really want to thank Jorge Mendoza, who always has our backs here in our hospitals and clinics. As our emergency management leader, he consistently keeps us prepared for storms, crises, disasters, and emergencies. Everyone appreciates his excellent work, and we have benefitted from his wisdom and foresight many times. When crises and difficult days have come, his plans and preparation work. We de-escalate and prevent situations from getting worse.

Our community is in excellent hands here. August is National Emergency Management Awareness Month. And we want our whole community to know that we are aware of how crucial Jorge is at IVHD and in our community.

Back-to-school season is here, and Senator Steve Padilla is helping Imperial Valley families get ready.

Pioneers Memorial Hospital and the Imperial Valley Healthcare District are proud to welcome Dr. Anthony Magit, Associate Chief Medical Officer at Rady Children's Hospital–San Diego and a board-certified pediatric ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialist.

Dr. Magit visits the Imperial Valley weekly, bringing expert pediatric ENT care closer to home for local children and families. As a bilingual physician, he provides compassionate, high-quality care in both English and Spanish, helping ensure every family feels comfortable and supported.

We are delighted to have Dr. Magit to expand access to specialized pediatric healthcare in our community.

🦠 Researchers in JAMA Pediatrics found that antibiotic resistance in children has increased across every region of the world. The study examined more than 106,000 infection samples from 82 countries and identified growing resistance to several of the most prescribed antibiotics that doctors rely on to treat serious childhood infections, including pneumonia and sepsis.

Why does this matter to families in the Imperial Valley?

Antibiotics save lives, but they do not effectively treat viruses such as most colds and the flu. So don't be surprised when your doctor recommends drinking plenty of fluids, getting extra rest, and using over-the-counter medications to relieve symptoms such as fever and body aches.

Physicians understand that unnecessary antibiotic use gives bacteria more chances to adapt and develop resistance. As resistant bacteria spread through communities, infections that doctors once treated easily become harder to control.

Parents can help protect their children by:

✅ Using antibiotics only when prescribed by a healthcare professional
✅ Following your medication instructions
✅ Keeping your children and teens up to date on recommended vaccinations
✅ Practicing good handwashing and illness prevention habits

If you feel dizzy, weak, or nauseated, cool down, hydrate, and get care right away — don't wait it out.

Remembering Dr. Cabrera

Pioneers Memorial Hospital would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, colleagues, and former patients of Ernest Cabrera, MD.

Dr. Cabrera served as an anesthesiologist at Pioneers Memorial Hospital from 1997 to 2015. Throughout his many years of dedicated service, Dr. Cabrera made a meaningful impact on our hospital, staff, patients, and the community. We will remember him for his commitment to patient care and the many lives he touched throughout his career.

Our staff and community miss Dr. Cabrera, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.
