Inner Wild Nutrition Welcome to Inner Wild Nutrition! My name is Uriell and I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and I help cyclists, runners, and skiers know what to eat.

Uriell is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and owner of Whole Life Breck. She studied at Bastyr University in Seattle and then completed her dietetic internship with Utah State University during which she worked in a variety of clinical, community and food service nutrition settings throughout Colorado. Uriell’s passion for nutrition began while growing up on her family’s organic farm in Vermon

t. Upon moving to Breckenridge in 2007 she found that nutrition and questions regarding food and health were a common topic of conversation among friends and fellow athletes and she wanted to find a way to be able to answer those questions. Today, Uriell’s nutrition practice focuses on incorporating whole foods nutrition with sustainable goals that will help you achieve whole body health and wellness for a lifetime. Specialties include weight loss, sports and performance nutrition and chronic disease prevention or management. Uriell’s favorite part of her job is that her “work” is as much a part of her personal life as it is her professional life. Beyond Whole Life Breck, she can be found working at Whole Foods in Frisco, experimenting with new recipes in her kitchen, or outside either trail running, split boarding or training for her upcoming mountain bike race season. Uriell welcomes all ages and is open to discuss any nutritional interests you may have.

One of the most common things that I see people doing is going way too long without eating throughout their day - this often makes you overeat when you do finally get to eat, and it does not support performance, because it often means that you’re skipping pre-or post workout fueling 🚨

💥The first thing to do to fix this is make sure that you have food available in your space! Stash those bars and trail mix packets!

Calories get a bad reputation, but they’re literally fuel your body needs.

They support energy, mood, performance, and recovery — and without them, everything feels harder than it needs to.

You don’t need to eat less to be “better.” You need to eat enough to function at your best.

Your body doesn’t just get stronger & faster because you did the workout - it gets stronger & faster when you give it the FUEL it needs to allow your muscles & cardiovascular system to say “hey, that was hard - let’s rebuild and adapt to make it a little bit easier next time” and it can’t do that without YOU!

I get that the logistics of recovery can be confusing…like, protein vs. carbs, when you need more than just your next meal, timing and whole lot more, which is why recovery strategy is a party of tomorrows FREE WORKSHOP - just comment below I’ll give you the link to sign up so that you can make every workout worth it and get better results for the work you’re putting in!

The closer you get to your workout, the simpler your food should be.

Think: easy-to-digest carbs that give you quick energy without weighing you down.

Here’s exactly what to eat based on your timing:

🍊 0–30 minutes before — aim for 15–30g of simple carbs (fruit juice, sports drink, waffle with syrup)

🥯 30–60 minutes before — aim for 30–45g of carbs + ~5g protein, minimal fat (½ bagel with cream cheese, cereal with milk, PB pretzels)

Weight loss isn’t all about cutting calories — especially when you’ve got workouts to support!

🍞Carb timing is one of the most underrated tools for athletes who want to change their body composition without tanking their performance.

🧩This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to how I work with athletes — but it’s always a core piece of the puzzle.

You’ve got to make intentional adjustments, without suffering through every effort.

I will never recommend an iron supplement without seeing your lab work first‼️

🩸Here’s what most people miss: ferritin — your body’s iron storage form. The reference range is broad, but the optimal range for athletes is much narrower.

❌ I’ve had athletes told their ferritin was “fine” by their doctor — but fine for the general population isn’t the same as optimal for performance.

💥If you’re an endurance athlete, this matters more than you think.

Earlier this week, I had plans to go down to BV and camp in the back of my truck for a couple of nights between a day of coaching with …then, I saw that the overnight lows were going to be 1 degree above freezing. Luckily, when I decided I’m too old for that, the had an opening…

Instead of a couple nights of roughing it, I got to spend my time away in truly one of the most relaxing spaces I’ve had the privilege to post up in - the reminds me just how special it is to be able to spend time in an environment that elicits comfort & joy

So, I got to ride my bike for 3 days in a row, coach an incredible crew of women all day on Thursday, AND come back home feeling refreshed (& still warm, without a truckload of camping gear!)

📍If BV is a destination for you, make sure to check out - it’s located right on Main Street so I could ride over the bridge within minutes & be right on the trials 👌
