May is Mental Health Awareness Month! At City of Bridgeport Drugs, we want our community to know something important, it is okay to not be okay sometimes. Life can get overwhelming, stressful, lonely, or exhausting, and taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your physical health! You are never alone and asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness!
A few important facts for you:
• 1 in 5 adults experience mental challenges each year
• Anxiety and depression affect millions of people every day
• Support, treatment, and simply talking to someone can make a huge difference
If you or someone you love needs support, here are some helpful resources in and around the Jackson County area:
• Mountain Lakes Behavioral Healthcare serving Jackson County residents with mental health services and crises support
• Highlands Medical Center- Behavioral Health Resources
• 988 Su***de and Crises Lifeline – Call or text 988 for free, confidential support 24/7
• If someone is in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest ER
• Below is a link the Alabama Public Health Website for Crisis numbers for Alabama: https://www.alabamapublichealth.gov/suicide/crisis-numbers.html
A few simple ways to care for your mental health this month:
• Spend time outdoors
• Talk with someone you trust
• Get enough rest
• Give yourself grace
• Take breaks when needed
Most importantly, check on your people. A simple “How are you really doing?” can mean more than you know!
We are thankful to be part of such a caring community and encourage everyone to spread kindness, compassion, and hope this month and always!
