It's important to know that is treated differently than other breast cancers. Chemotherapy is given first, followed by surgery then radiation. The whole breast needs to be removed and radiation is essential to clean-up any remaining cancer cells in the skin. Speak up if you think your Dr isn't aware of these differences & suggest consulting an IBC specialist.

Want to raise awareness and educate folks about ? Our Executive Director, Ginny, got permission to place Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC) Research Foundation brochures and bookmarks at a local coffee shop. She shared her IBC experience with the owner who was happy to help educate the folks who visit her shop!!

Clinical trials are essential to help Drs know how best to treat specific types of cancer. Without including IBC pts in trials, we don't know what treatments work best. Think you might have ? Visit www.ibcresearch.org before seeing your HCP so you can advocate for yourself. Too often HCP's dismiss symptoms as "hormonal" or infection, especially if no lump is seen on mammogram.

Mammograms are useful but paying attention to your body for changes costs nothing and is even more important. If you notice any of these symptoms and they don't go away....see your HCP to be evaluated for .

As we prepare for , let's remind people that it's research, patient support and better healthcare for all that will make a difference in saving lives. Wearing a pink t-shirt or buying pink shoes doesn't cure breast cancer of any kind.

Living with is tough. About 1/3 of IBC pts have metastatic disease at diagnosis. Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC) Research Foundation was involved in bringing the film IV: Our Lives from a concept to a film. The film will be shown as part of an awareness film festival in California. To learn more & obtain tickets follow this link.
