💗 **Original Medicare or Medicare Advantage—what's the difference?**
If you've ever looked at Medicare options and thought, *"Why does this have to be so confusing?"* you're definitely not alone.
One of the biggest things to understand is that **Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage are two different ways to receive your Medicare benefits.**
🔹 **ORIGINAL MEDICARE**
Original Medicare includes **Part A (hospital insurance) and Part B (medical insurance)** and is provided through the federal government.
With Original Medicare, you can generally see any doctor or hospital in the U.S. that accepts Medicare.
You can also choose to add:
💊 A separate **Part D prescription drug plan**
🩺 A **Medicare Supplement (Medigap)** policy to help with certain out-of-pocket costs
🔹 **MEDICARE ADVANTAGE — PART C**
Medicare Advantage plans are offered by **private insurance companies approved by Medicare**.
These plans provide your Part A and Part B benefits and often bundle additional coverage, such as:
💊 Prescription drug coverage
🦷 Dental
👓 Vision
👂 Hearing
…and other benefits depending on the plan.
However, many Medicare Advantage plans use **provider networks and plan-specific rules**, so it's important to make sure your doctors, hospitals, medications and other healthcare needs are covered before choosing a plan.
⚠️ **Here's the important part:**
One isn't automatically "better" than the other.
The right choice depends on **YOU**—your healthcare needs, providers, prescriptions, budget, travel habits and personal preferences.
That is why choosing Medicare coverage based only on a commercial, a $0 premium, or an advertised extra benefit can be a BIG mistake.
