It’s graduation season! 🎓 Some words of wisdom from the Orange Shoe OGs:

“Katie and I have had the privilege of working with thousands of people over the past 20 years. Through all the workouts and conversations, a couple of lessons keep showing up:

Lesson 1: We make our goals a bigger deal than they need to be.
You don’t need more information—you need more action.

Lesson 2: What feels hard now won’t stay hard.
Stick with it, and in a few weeks or months, the “challenging” becomes normal.

It’s not just fitness—it’s life.

I know someone who decided at age 60 to train for an Ironman.
Year one, he was pulled from the swim by the rescue team.
Year two, he finished—but not in the time he wanted.
Year three, he finished on his terms.

A lot of times, our goals are realistic, but our timelines are not. Keep this in mind when you set out to accomplish something new.

I believed this 20 years ago—and I believe it even more today: the best investment you’ll ever make is in people.

Around the summer of 2011 we had just finished training for (and completing) a marathon and were looking for new ways to continue living a fit lifestyle but with a little less running. We liked the idea of joining a gym that could offer group classes for motivation and some guidance on strength training, which we knew would become more important as we aged. As luck would have it, we discovered Orange Shoe right in our neighborhood and found it was a perfect fit! We really enjoyed the variety of classes, personal attention, and the fantastic group of trainers and fellow gym members. 🏋️‍♀️

We love to travel and we definitely feel like our time at Orange Shoe has helped us sustain the level of fitness we need to do the things we want to do on our adventures, like climbing the Manitou Incline in Colorado, hiking the Kalalau Trail in Kauai, and 20K-step days touring Rome. Oh, and our biggest adventure yet, Mara’s pregnancy in 2012! Mara worked out at Orange Shoe throughout her entire pregnancy and feels this was a great benefit to both her and our daughter. 🤰

Now, as our daughter has gotten older and wants to try downhill skiing or ziplining, we aren’t afraid to be right there with her. We feel confident that the work we put in now, made easier through our time at Orange Shoe, will help us continue to live a healthy and active lifestyle. ⛷️

This is Shae’s “why” — what’s your “why”?

As a mom herself, Shae specializes in/loves to work with prenatal/postpartum women🤰

Shae graduated from Concordia University with a Master of Science in Exercise Physiology and worked as an exercise physiologist in both a cardiopulmonary rehab and cardiac diagnostics lab. Shae has been in involved in sports throughout her entire life which led her to run track at Olivet Nazarene University for four years. When not at the studio, Shae enjoys long runs, spending time with her family, and walking her dogs.

👟 Why did you become a personal trainer?

I always knew in some way I wanted to help people, it wasn’t until my grandfather’s heart health took a turn for the worse when I discovered cardiac rehab and how exercise could be used as medicine.

👟 What has been one of your favorite client experiences?

I’m not sure I could pick just one, but something I have always enjoyed was going into work first thing in the morning and seeing those who were committed and disciplined enough to make exercise the first part of their day.

👟 What is your proudest physical achievement?

Competing at nationals in track for the 4x100m relay. My team and I had broke the school record (multiple times) and went to nationals. It was such a proud moment being able to compete at that level.

👟 Why do you love Orange Shoe?

I love Orange Shoe because I get to see people commit to their health in a place where they are welcomed and valued as individuals.

Dan brings lots of value to the organization having decades of experience in the fitness industry and lots of business and general life experience as well.
