We remember Dr. Sidney Alexander, cardiologist and cofounder of the Nobel Peace Prize winning organization Physicians for Social Responsibility, who has passed away at 94.
A research fellow under Lown Institute founder Dr. Bernard Lown and chairman of what is now the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at Lahey Clinic, Dr. Alexander helped launch local, regional, and national organizations and programs that promote preventive cardiology care. In April, when colleagues held a celebration for his retirement, he was still seeing patients every week — at 94. Some patients saw him for 40 or more years.
A cofounder of Physicians for Social Responsibility, Dr. Alexander was a Lahey Clinic cardiologist for more than 60 years.
