Trying to keep my perimenopause/menopause estrogen talk in terms of black cohosh and my Kiss of Life mood stabilizing and energizing peri/menopause blend to be taken in capsules—it was wicked hard! I’ll keep trying and will talk more about these herbal allies and our bodies.

What I was tryin to get at here is this:

During perimenopause until a year after your final menstrual cycle, estrogen production decreases and progesterone, well, we will completely cease producing that. Mood swings, fatigue, brain fog, hot flashes, headaches, sleeplessness, osteoporosis, anger, sadness, headaches, weight gain…these are all things my women are talking about experiencing and are mentioned in accounts I’ve read and heard about from my teachers and their books. Estrogen dominance, running a little unchecked as progesterone, a natural counterbalance to estrogen hanging around on cell walls and in adipose tissues, production slows to a halt is a marked difference in all of us and thus, is how we frame this change in biological women’s hormone fluctuations.
If at all possible, I encourage women who are feeling slowed or overwhelmed by dealing with these changes to work with food choices, exercise, sleep and plant allies.
We all respond differently to the fluctuations and the nuance of this universal change is deeply individual. But plants are engineered by the same source who engineered our bodies—NATURE! Plant intelligence is much like our body intelligence, built to evolve and survive. So they have a better chance at gracefully moving through the body as we guess how to manage the ever present and mysterious hormone conversation within each of us.
The plants I chose to put together in this blend are meant to act on organ systems and tissues, rather than hit over the head at something particular, like you might I’d say you had a specific thyroid, heart or liver issue for example.
Black cohosh is included in here because it has proven to be deeply helpful for hormonal mood swings for me and good number of my clients. I also love the doctrine of signatures that Matthew Wood recounted in a visiting lecture he gave at Herb school. He spoke of the wound up, *cont’d in comments

🌟🌟We’re starting a new cycle! Blaze into Aries season with the perfect tea 🌟🌟

The Roof Is On Fire, an Aries blend.

This tea is designed to enhance the best of the trail blazing, headstrong, get-it-going traits of this cardinal fire sign from a good, grounded foundation.

Hibiscus, Lemon Balm, Nettle, Wood Betony, Yarrow, Ginkgo Biloba, and Ginger

In medical astrology, Aries, as the first sign of the zodiac, rules the bodily domains of the head, skull and Cerebro-Spinal system and some of the muscular system. When an Aries is out of alignment, it often manifests as “too much heat”—think inflammation, tension, or pure burnout. This blend has a little synchronistic spice with a really solid, nutritive core and racy, tart overtones.

Hibiscus and Lemon balm provide a tart, refreshing trajectory that lowers the internal temperature and centers the mind.

Mineral-rich Nettles nourish the foundation of everything, providing the physical stamina Aries demands.

Wood betony draws energy down from a racing brain into the body, while yarrow masterfully regulates the blood, pulling excess back to the core.

Gingko biloba supports the Aries-ruled brain, while the ultimate anti-inflammatory ally, Ginger, soothes what could become over-exertion.

The Roof Is On Fire blend isn’t about putting out the Aries flame; it’s about supporting the momentum.

Perimenopause and menopause is a majestic transition. In this profound biological time we begin to metabolize the emotional and physical wisdom accumulated in our bodies and psyches. And yes, there are plant allies than can possibly make this rite of passage more comfortable. I am not talking about “curing” menopause—I want us to celebrate it! HRT is sometimes a necessary tool and I do not through any shade at its use! That just doesn’t have to be the only story you write if you’re feeling uncomfortable bearing these changes.

Try my herbal blend, Kiss of Life, to alleviate some of the feelings of low energy and mood swings! We made both tea and capsule. I prefer the capsules. DM or order on antidotebrooklyn.com

Please hydrate, eat a plant rich/fiber rich diet, exercise and sleep well—these factors profoundly effect our trip through this.

Over the coming month, I will be doing a series of videos on changes to expect and plant allies to try.

If you’ve made it this far as a woman in life, I can’t wait to hear your wisdom and see your joy and witness your activism! ✌️

🎏PISCES Season! 🎏

What’s My Name is an herbal tea blend crafted specifically for the Pisces archetype. This warming, immunity-supporting, and movement stimulating combination is designed for the “dreamy fishes” who navigate vast depths of both consciousness and the physical body.

Astragalus & Echinacea: deep immune resilience
Elderflower & Ginger: warmth and gentle stimulation
Chamomile & Oat tops to sooth the nervous system and the spirit.
Rue, Prickly Ash & Licorice: encourage movement and circulation

Pisces is a mutable water sign the final one in the trip around the zodiac. Ruled by Jupiter (traditionally) and Neptune (modernly) governing the 12 House.

The crux of the Piscean paradigm lives in the furthest reaches of the body matching their instinct leads them deep into the psyche, often blurring the lines between dream and reality. This tea honor their physiological dominion over the feet, the toes and the vital fluids that sustain us. From the synovial fluid in our joints to the lymphatic system.

The lymph, the key to our immune system, relies on movement to function, unlike the heart-pumped circulatory system. Much like the Piscean tendency to absorb information from their environment, Piscean are physiologically inclined toward “moist build-ups” in the lymph.

*NOTE: due to the presence of rue, prickly ash and licorice, this blend is not recommended for I Donald who might be pregnant or those taking heart medication.

Eat Your Medicine!
this is a new series of videos I’ll be making to illustrate Food as Medicine. Always vegetarian and herb-y.
Take care of yourself, your loved ones, and your community.
Mushroom Congee
This takes about 45 mins to make & is a delicious, warming, grounding, immune boosting, circulation mover, liver & kidney stimulating food.
(This 45 mins doesn’t included the time your cut mushrooms sit in the window or outside for at least 30 mins to hyper accumulate Vitamin D for you to ingest.)
In the broth
8 cups of water
2 large fingers of ginger thinly sliced & diced
2 fingers of fresh turmeric thinly sliced & diced(these are almost always smaller than ginger ones)
2 garlic cloves thinly sliced & diced
1/2 onion or whole shallot thinly sliced & diced
1/2 serrano pepper & 1/2 jalapeno pepper thinly sliced & diced
2 Tbsp burdock root & 2 Tbsp dandelion root in a teabag or tea ball

Mushroom Prep
6-8 oz oyster mushroom sliced
6-8 oz sh*take mushroom sliced
6-8 oz portobello mushroom sliced
(put all these sliced in a sunny window to hyper accumulate Vit D for at least 30 mins)
then in a bowl, toss with
1 tbsp miso paste,
1/4 cup peanut sauce or tamari sauce,
2 Tbsp corn starch
Let sit while you boil the 8 oz water (unless you have a vegetable broth)
Throw in the bag or ball of burdock & dandelion roots 1 cube of vegetable bouillon (you know your own sodium situation)
Rinse the rice 3 to 4 times massaging the rice with your hands in a bowl to loosen the extra dust & starch. The water should run clean. Let soak for at least 2 hrs, but over night is even better.
The water should well be boiling. Add the rice & stir gently until you reach a boil. Add the minced herbs & veggies. Reduces heat to a medium simmer. Loosely cover & let simmer for 25 mins.
Once you test the rice to make sure its soft and there is a good amount of liquid, stir in the sun tanned & marinated mushrooms. Let cook for another 4 or 5 mins.
Add your toppings and serve
I always use whatever seeds & nuts I have for crunch. I also love green onions, cilantro & peppers
