Brooklyn Public Library Board Meeting
September 1, 2026 at 5pm
Call to Order
The regular meeting of the Brooklyn Public Library was held Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at 5p.m. Those present were President Matt Maschmann, Secretary Beth Meldrem, Treasurer Jamie McClenathan, Board Members- Mary Jo Collum, Chris Hurst, Bob Lacina, Sherry Korns-Johnson and Library Director Josh Gerard.
President Matt Maschmann called the meeting to order at 5:00p.m. Minutes were read. Motion by Mary Jo; 2nd by Sherry to approve the August 3, 2026 minutes. All Ayes. Motion carried

Annual Survey Report - Yearly numbers for 2025-26
Total physical circulation = 8,670
Total use of e-books= 790
Total use of downloadable audio= 2,916
Total circulation = 25,468
Total Interlibrary Loan received = 650
Total Interlibrary Loan provided = 506
Annual use of public internet computers = 1,769
Total people attending library programs (age 0-5) = 1,422
Total people attending library programs (age 6-11) = 1,321
Total people attending library programs for adults = 581
Friends of the Library offered a Taste Test Challenge and had several visitors and a few new teenagers who signed up for Libby.
Story Time resumes at the Library on Wednesday September 9
Tournament Tuesday resumes September 15. We are now seeking sponsors for this hugely popular weekly program. Please contact Josh if you are willing to help sponsor.
Friends of the Library is offering a Fall Reading program for adults. Participation is from Sept. 1 through Oct. 31. Please stop by the Library to grab your reading log and a BINGO sheet. Your participation could win you one of 3 prizes valued at $100 each!
Josh represented area libraries at a Grinnell Gathers meeting. Brooklyn Library created a wonderful printed resource for anyone facing homelessness or who needs assistance. It has a list of helpful places you can reach out to for help.

We had 49 reference requests. 529 patrons used our computers, and 564 accessed our wifi. There were 36 meetings in our conference room. We welcomed 72 new members
and renewed 147. There were 72 competitors for the weekly Friends of the Library Game Gang. 681 people showed up for weekly Wednesday Story Times. 23 came to the monthly book club. We provided books to 35 patrons via our Bookmobile to Brooklyn Community Estates. 75 people accessed our digital archives. We provided notary services 112 times. And 229 young patrons participated in our E-Sports program.
