Hey buddies if you are feeling the back to school vibes and need some classes this fall, check this one out!

Gender Affirming Care:
Designing a Trans-Informed Practice
with Holly Ledbetter, LMT, CMLDT
of Holly Ledbetter LMT, CMLDT

Thursday Oct 15th, 12 noon-2pm on Zoom
2 NYS/NCBTMB CE hours
$85 Early Bird (by 9/15 with code EARLYBIRDTRANS) | $95 regular

This is a live lecture with Holly Ledbetter, a trans massage therapist and active advocate for better standards of post-op care for trans folks. Participants will learn how to create a trans-informed practice: create intake forms, treatment plans, and follow-up materials that affirm the identities and experiences of their trans clients. This course provides an introduction to not only gender-affirming care, but also trauma informed care and disability justice informed care, which all overlap in the trans community. Students will explore inclusivity in practice from intake form to follow up, and discuss common chief complaints and red flags.

This class is also open to other providers - acupuncturists, chiropractors, yoga teachers, reiki masters - anyone who wants to design a trans informed practice !

Some of our Kiera Nagle, MA, LMT, CLC team have taken time off during the summer months to restore and recharge! We love our work but as professional care-givers it's crucial for us to take time out - as we know, we can't pour from an empty cup!

We may have ended up doing so in geographically different places from upstate NY to California, but the themes were common- we needed to touch ground, tree bathe, feel the sun and wind, and get into the rhythm of the waves!

We hope our clients have also been able to take a moment to rest in the great outdoors and we are just as happy to be back in the office to provide and for you as you begin to reset into your fall routines.

We hope our buddies also took care of themselves this summer!

Where did you go and what did you do?

August is National Breastfeeding & Chestfeeding Month, a time where we recognize the importance of supporting families throughout their infant feeding journey.

Many parents experience physical discomfort, fatigue, posture-related pain, swelling, or challenges as they and their learn together.

Supporting the feeding parent means supporting their body, too.

Kiera Nagle, MA, LMT, CLC our practitioners offer and specialized breast/chest massage, as well as Manual Lymphatic Drainage to help address the physical demands that can accompany bodyfeeding.

These services may help reduce muscular tension, improve comfort, support relaxation, and, when appropriate, provide gentle support for concerns such as engorgement or swelling as part of a comprehensive care plan.

Whether you breastfeed, chestfeed, pump, supplement, use formula, or a combination of methods, you deserve compassionate, evidence-informed care.

Book a session to support your body in this amazing process, whatever it looks like for you!

Valorie Kiera Nagle, MA, LMT, CLC says:

Sometimes we get asked “why does this feel different than a “normal” massage?” While this question is a can of worms, it is clear that encouraging clients in self-perception is a unique and potent impact of thoughtful therapeutic touch.

We know through years of experience, developed intuition, and science, that one of the most potent effects of is the down-regulation of bodily systems. This allows space for your body’s knowing -for how to resolve tension, integrate life experiences, and listen to internal signals that come from physiological processes-allowing them to reappear. When we linger with touch on the physical spaces that “hold” or “stagnate” or “feel stuck,” we offer the body an opportunity to re-make connections (neurological and/or mechanical) that might have been overrun with the external world’s stimuli.

Beginning to notice these things, on and off the table, is relationship building with your own

This noticing is where much happens– learning to trust ourselves, including in movement, decision making, and even “gut feelings.” It’s one way to build safety in a world that can impose disheartening general overwhelm, specific trauma, or chronic discomfort/pain. When we work with a approach, we are offering to meet you where you’re at, to carefully listen and adapt, to witness you with no agenda. No rushing to safety… just curiosity and genuine encouragement that you can rest here. Real rest. Deep relaxation is a “coming home,” and we will always do our best to co-create a space for you to practice this internal-listening.

The touch modality or approach may differ for each person, though it is about finding the therapeutic cues that work for you- whether you need physical relief, emotional integration, or a systemic settling of the nervous system. The invitation is in the next appointment you make, may you book knowing that you are not just "receiving" a massage- you’re also an active participant in meaning-making of what happens on the table and how your body moves with it out of the treatment room.

Valorie's regular shifts are Tues aft/eve and Fri am/aft 🙌🏻

Kiera Nagle, MA, LMT, CLC we often get asked what type of service is the right one to book when you are pregnant.

And there’s two good answers which depend on your goals for your massage session!

If you have a goal of focusing on reducing musculoskeletal pain and discomfort from activities of daily living while pregnant, you should book a session. In this session, your therapist can provide deeper touch methods like myofascial release, trigger point work, Swedish massage, and mobilizations to help reduce muscle tension and pain and restore mobility.

But, if you have a goal of focusing on reducing swelling and edema of the legs, arms and face, and/or are experiencing any digestive concerns, you should book an session. In this session, your therapist will apply light touch / skin stretch pressure to the face, neck, arms, ribs, and legs to activate the lymph receptors and reduce swelling. We can also include abdominal massage in this session which can help reduce digestive symptoms and pelvic pressure, foster diaphragmatic breathing and positively impact lymph flow.  THIS SESSION WILL NOT INCLUDE  deeper pressure work to address musculoskeletal pain.

Prenatal massage uses traditional massage modalities like Swedish massage, myofascial release, acupressure and more to address the common discomforts of pregnancy with deeper touch / pressure approaches that can be customized for your preference and comfort. Manual lymphatic drainage or MLD integrates perfectly with prenatal massage as it works towards reducing swelling, particularly of the limbs, which is a common symptom in pregnancy. MLD is a more subtle approach using light touch to stretch the skin, where the lymph receptors are located. It is very relaxing and effective, but it does feel different than “regular” massage. We like to clarify this so that we can meet client expectations with our care.

Have multiple goals ?  In this case it is best to book a prenatal massage, and make it a longer session- at least 75 or 90 minutes so that your therapist can address both goals adequately.

is the perfect time to slow down, unplug, and pick up a good   ! 📖

Kiera Nagle, MA, LMT, CLC we believe self-care is about creating moments wherever we can that can help regulate our nervous systems and give our minds a chance to rest.

Reading can be one of those practices, as well as a simple way to step away from screens and reconnect with yourself.

This summer, our team is sharing some of the books currently on our reading lists - we hope you discover something that inspires your next read!

 We’d love to hear:
• What’s on your summer reading list?
• Have you read any of these books?
• Which one are you adding to your TBR?

Tell us in the comments ! And don’t forget - before or after your next appointment, stop by our   in the hallway! Feel free to borrow a book, leave one you’ve loved, or simply browse the shelves. Happy reading!
