A Look Inside Tulsi’s Therapy Space 🌿

A therapy space can be more than a room. It can become a place where someone feels safe enough to slow down, breathe, reflect, and begin to explore the parts of themselves that may have been carrying a lot for a long time.

Tulsi has thoughtfully created her workspace with warmth, comfort, and intention - offering clients an environment that feels welcoming rather than clinical.

Her approach to therapy is grounded in creating space for clients to show up as they are, without needing to have everything figured out or knowing exactly where to begin.

Whether the work involves navigating anxiety, trauma, motherhood, relationships, identity, or life’s many transitions, her therapy space is designed to offer a place to pause, reconnect, and do meaningful work at a pace that honors each individual.

A space to breathe.
A space to feel.
A space to be.

Child-Centered Play Therapy is Powerful!

Children often communicate through play long before they have the words to express what they’re feeling. Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) gives children a safe, accepting space to express themselves, explore their emotions, work through challenges, and discover their own strengths.

As Dr. Brenna Hicks, a leading child-centered play therapist and educator, emphasizes, play is not simply something children DO in therapy, it is the way children naturally communicate, process their experiences, and make sense of their world. Her work is dedicated to preserving and advancing the classical Child-Centered Play Therapy model and helping therapists understand the transformative power of the therapeutic relationship.

Through a relationship built on acceptance, safety, and trust, children can begin to develop emotional regulation, confidence, self-esteem, and a greater sense of mastery over their experiences.

Play isn't "just playing." For children, play is their language. It is through that language where healing can begin.

For parents and professionals interested in learning more, we highly recommend Dr. Brenna Hicks' Play Therapy Podcast: A Master-Class in Child-Centered Play Therapy, which offers accessible education and insight into the CCPT approach.

Benefits of Child Centered Play Therapy:

🧸 Express feelings and experiences they may not yet have words for

💛 Process difficult or traumatic experiences in a developmentally appropriate way

🌱 Build self-esteem and confidence

🧠 Develop emotional regulation and coping skills

🤝 Strengthen relationships and trust

🎯 Increase their sense of control and mastery

🌈 Explore and work through fears, worries, and internal conflicts

🗣️ Develop greater emotional awareness and communication

💪 Discover their own strengths and capacity to solve problems

One of the most important aspects of CCPT is that the therapist does not direct the child toward a predetermined solution. Instead, the therapist provides a consistent, accepting, and emotionally safe relationship where the child can lead. Research has shown that given the right conditions, children have an innate capacity for growth and healing.

Continuing Education: Perinatal Substance Use Disorders

Last week, Tulsi attended a training through Postpartum Support International (PSI) focused on Perinatal Substance Use Disorders.

The training offered an important reminder: substance use is rarely just about the substance itself. As journalist Johann Hari has expressed, “the opposite of addiction isn’t sobriety; it’s connection.”

This perspective is especially important during the fourth trimester, when the risk of overdose and substance-related death can increase for individuals experiencing perinatal substance use disorders. The postpartum period can bring profound isolation, disrupted sleep, changes in identity, and shifts in the support systems that once helped someone feel connected and regulated.

Attachment theory offers one lens for understanding why connection matters so deeply. Early relational experiences can shape how we regulate distress, experience safety, and seek comfort. When connection and support feel inaccessible, substances may begin to serve a function - sometimes offering temporary relief, regulation, or a sense of escape.

For Tulsi, this training reinforced the importance of approaching perinatal substance use with curiosity, compassion, and a trauma-informed lens.

The question is not simply, “Why is she using?”

It is also: Who is there for her right now?
What support has been lost or become inaccessible?
And how can we help rebuild meaningful connection?

Because effective care involves more than addressing the substance. It also means understanding the person, the relationships, and the context surrounding the use.

Address the substance.
Restore connection.
Support the whole person.

Reviving The Roots Counseling & Wellness made its debut in Brownsburg in 2022 and has recently added two new seasoned therapists, all working from a similar approach.

Our nervous system is shaped by everything we experience—from early attachment and relationships to stress, trauma, transitions, and the ongoing demands of life. When these experiences overwhelm our capacity to regulate, the nervous system can become disrupted, affecting how we feel, think, connect, and respond to the world around us.

At Reviving The Roots Counseling & Wellness, we approach healing through a trauma- and attachment-informed lens. Mental health therapy, sound and vibrational therapies, Reiki, and yoga can each support regulation, connection, and restoration in different ways. By working with the mind, body, nervous system, and relationships together, we create space for the whole person to heal, reconnect, and feel rooted again.

We work with children, age 2 through adulthood.

✨ **Come Back to Your Center** ✨

At Reviving The Roots Counseling & Wellness we believe wellness is about more than simply managing symptoms. Sometimes, your mind, body, and nervous system need space to slow down, reconnect, and restore.

🌿 **Reiki & Sound/Vibrational Services** offer a calming, restorative experience designed to support relaxation, mindfulness, and nervous system regulation.

Our wellness offerings may include:

🔮 **Reiki** — a gentle, energy-based practice intended to promote relaxation and a sense of balance. In-person and virtually anywhere!

🎶 **Sound & Vibrational Therapy** — using tools such as crystal singing bowls, Himalayan bowls, tuning forks, chimes, and the Buffalo Drum to create soothing sounds and vibrations that invite the body to slow down.

🧘‍♀️ **Sound Baths** — immersive group experiences where you can simply breathe, listen, and allow yourself to rest.

These services can be a beautiful complement to your existing self-care routine—and **you do not have to be a therapy client to participate in our wellness services.**

Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, emotionally drained, disconnected, or simply in need of intentional rest, we invite you to **pause, breathe, and reconnect with yourself.** 🌱

✨ **Your nervous system deserves care, too.**
