Forget “I need coffee.” Around here, we summon the dark elixir of sanity before interacting with the mortal realm. ☕️🖤🔮

Because apparently “please don’t speak to me until the caffeine kicks in” just doesn’t have enough ✨dramatic witch energy✨.

May your cup be strong, your patience be stronger, and your spirit stop waning most pitifully. 😂

🍂 A WITCH AND HIS CAT — A MABON STEW 🍂

As the days begin to shorten and Autumn settles over the land, Mabon invites us to slow down, gather close, and give thanks for what the year has placed upon our table.

And sometimes, Witch, the best magick isn't found in a complicated ritual.
Sometimes…it is simmering in a cast-iron pot. 🖤

🍲 Mabon Harvest Stew

You will need:

🥩 2 lbs beef chuck, cut into bite-sized pieces
🥔 4 potatoes, cubed
🥕 4 carrots, sliced
🧅 1 large onion, chopped
🧄 4 cloves garlic, minced
🍄 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
🌿 2 sprigs fresh rosemary
🌿 3 sprigs fresh thyme
🍃 2 bay leaves
🥣 4 cups beef broth
🍺 1 cup dark ale or additional broth
🍅 2 tablespoons tomato paste
🥄 2 tablespoons flour
🧈 2 tablespoons butter or oil
🧂 Salt and black pepper to taste

Optional Mabon additions: turnips, parsnips, squash, barley, or whatever seasonal vegetables your harvest provides.

🔥 The Making

Brown the beef in butter or oil, working in batches so the meat develops a good dark crust.

Remove it and add the onion, carrots, mushrooms, and garlic.

Cook until the onions soften, then stir in the tomato paste and flour.

Slowly pour in the dark ale and broth.
Return the beef to the pot and add the potatoes, rosemary, thyme, and bay leaves.

Bring everything to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat, cover, and allow it to simmer for about 2 hours, until the beef is tender and the broth has become rich and thick.

But Witch…

We aren't finished.

🕯️ Put Some Magick In It

As you add each ingredient, give it purpose.

Potatoes — grounding, stability, protection.
Carrots — prosperity, vitality, abundance.
Onion — protection and removing unwanted influences.
Garlic — protection, strength, cleansing.
Mushrooms — transformation and connection with the hidden Earth.
Rosemary — remembrance, protection, purification.
Thyme — courage, healing, strength.
Bay — manifestation, protection, wisdom.
Beef — nourishment, strength, and the sustaining gifts of the Earth.

As the stew simmers, stir it slowly with intention.

Think about what this year's harvest has brought you.

Not merely money or possessions.

What did you learn?
What survived?
What finally ended?
What grew because you refused to give up?
What are you carrying into the darker half of the year?

When the stew is ready, remove the bay leaves and herb stems.

Serve it with warm crusty bread, butter, cider, ale, or whatever makes your Autumn table feel like home.

Before eating, take one quiet moment.

Look at the bowl before you.

Earth became root.
Root became harvest.
Harvest became nourishment.

And now that nourishment becomes you.

That is magick too.

May your Mabon table be full.
May your home be protected.
May your pantry know abundance.
May those you love be nourished.

And may you enter the coming darkness carrying gratitude for everything you harvested—and wisdom from everything you had to leave behind.

Blessings )☆(

P.S. I put this out early, so there would be enough time to plan. )☆(

🌾 CORN DOLLIES, THE SPIRIT OF THE HARVEST 🌾

As we welcome 1st August and the old festival of Lughnasadh (Lammas), you may spot beautiful little creations woven from wheat or barley known as corn dollies.

Despite the name, they’re not made from sweetcorn. In Britain, the word corn once simply meant the local grain, usually wheat, oats, barley or rye.

Across Britain and Ireland, it was once believed that the spirit of the growing crop lived within the fields. As the harvest drew to a close, that spirit was thought to retreat into the very last sheaf left standing.

Rather than wasting it, the final stalks were carefully woven into a corn dolly. It was taken home and kept in the farmhouse throughout the winter, protecting the household and holding the blessings of the harvest until spring. When the next sowing season arrived, the straw was often returned to the fields so the spirit could continue its cycle of growth.

Every county developed its own distinctive patterns. Some were simple, while others became wonderfully intricate, passed down through generations of skilled hands.

Whether you see them as symbols of good luck, reminders of our farming heritage, or simply beautiful examples of traditional rural craft, corn dollies remain one of the loveliest customs of the harvest season.

Do you still have a corn dolly in your home, or has anyone in your family ever made one? 🌾

Shall we make some together? 💛

✨ Blessed Lughnasadh.
