To all pregnant and breastfeeding moms --- join us on June 15th from 1pm-2pm for our next Sprouts Breastfeeding Learning Group. Get questions answered and meet other moms and babies! You are also welcome to use our baby scales to do a baby weight check. (It's always fun to track your baby's growth!) This is a supportive group that is great at providing advice and helping one another learn. You do not need to be a WIC participant --- all pregnant and breastfeeding moms are invited. There is no cost to attend but we do ask to call to help us estimate how many will be in attendance so we can organize the room properly. Call (419)562-5859 to reserve your spot!

The 100 Deadliest Days of Summer are here. The period between Memorial Day and Labor Day is known as the “100 Deadliest Days of Summer” because it is historically one of the most dangerous times of year on our roadways. With schools out, increased travel, more teen drivers, and more people out enjoying summer activities, serious injury and fatal crashes often increase during these months.
Before you hit the road this summer, please remember to:
✅ Put the phone away. Avoid distractions.
✅ Slow down. Obey speed limits.
✅ Never drive impaired by alcohol or drugs.
✅ Buckle up. Every trip, every time.
✅ Avoid driving when fatigued.
✅ Watch for motorcycles, bicyclists, and pedestrians.
✅ Leave early and give yourself plenty of time to reach your destination.
One text, one distraction, or one poor decision can change lives forever.
Today's graphic shows the number of crashes for the entire state of Ohio between January 1, 2021 - June 8, 2026. Crawford County has experienced 4,307 crashes during that timeframe with most crashes involving a mature-related driver (age 55 and older), a deer-related incident, or a youth-related drives (between ages 15-24). Warm weather is a time when tiny plant-like organisms—algae and cyanobacteria—are more likely to overgrow in rivers, ponds, and lakes. These overgrowths, called algal blooms, can sometimes have foam, scum, or thick layers on the surface, or can look and smell bad. Algal blooms can also make the water appear green, red, brown, or blue. When they contain toxins that affect the health of people, animals, and the environment, they are known as harmful algal blooms (HABs).
You can’t tell if a bloom is harmful just by looking at it, and not all blooms are easy to see. When in doubt, stay out! Pets are susceptible to the toxins in the algal blooms too!

Can you identify Poison Hemlock and Wild Parsnip? If not, you need to take a moment to read the OSU Extension Buckeye Yard & Garden Online article by Joe Boggs in the link below. These biennial, non-native plants are both frequently found across Crawford County and both are just plain old nasty! Poison Hemlock is one the deadliest plants in North America and all parts (leaves, stem, seed and root) are poisonous and can cause respiratory failure and death. Wild Parsnip is not as lethal but contact with this plant can cause severe blistering about 24-72 hours after exposure that can last for months.
The OSU Extension article has excellent photos showing all stages of both plants -- and the two plants are often found growing together. Be sure you can identify them prior to getting out the mowers and string trimmers to avoid spraying sap and putting yourself at risk. No one should have intimate images, sexual deepfakes, or fake nudes shared without their consent. The TAKE IT DOWN Act enacted in May 2025 requires platforms to remove intimate photos or videos posted without consent. The TAKE IT DOWN Act makes it a federal crime to knowingly share or threaten to share non-consensual intimate images (NCII), including AI-generated images that depict real people and child sexual abuse material (children and adolescents under the age of 18). RAINN has created a 5-Step Guide that explains what to do - how to report to platforms, how to preserve evidence, how and when to file an FTC complaint, and how to get support.
