Today, the energy in Buffalo feels almost indescribable. Heavy. Sad. Full of grief. It’s like Mother Nature herself knew our city was silently hurting, and the weather reflects that pain.
Today reminds me of exactly where I was when I first heard about the tragedy on Jefferson Avenue. A place so familiar to so many of us in the community. A place where people laughed, shopped, connected, and lived life. And in a moment, a coward fueled by racism and hate took the lives of mothers, fathers, aunties, uncles, cousins, brothers, sisters, and elders simply because of the color of their skin.
The grief still sits with Buffalo. Honestly, it sits with all of New York State. You can feel it today. The sadness. The anger. The heartbreak. The trauma. But also the love, the resilience, and the determination to keep going forward despite it all.
To all the people who were there, to the families affected, and to those still carrying PTSD and trauma from that horrific day — please hang in there. You are loved, supported, and not forgotten.
Today, I want to pause and reflect on the beautiful lives lost during the 5/14 massacre and remind everyone that we must continue striving for equality, safety, justice, and love within our communities. We cannot turn a blind eye to racism, hate, or bigotry.
We will continue to encourage one another.
We will continue to protect one another.
We will continue to move forward together.
Racism will not win.
5/14 Buffalo, New York
We’ll Never Forget. 🖤
