The inaugural Emerging Spine Tech and Concepts course brought neurosurgery residents and fellows from across the United States and Canada to Buffalo for two days of hands-on education, collaboration and exposure to the technologies shaping the future of spine surgery.

Following the course, 100% of surveyed attendees said they were likely or very likely to incorporate these technologies into their future practice, including 83% who selected “very likely.”

We’re grateful to our faculty members for sharing their expertise and to Jacobs Institute and Atlas Surgery Center for helping make this experience possible.

Thank you to our sponsors, Globus Medical, SI-BONE, Acuity, icotec and Carlsmed, for supporting this educational opportunity.

We’re proud of the success of this year’s course and already looking forward to building on it next year!

Spine and spinal cord tumors require highly specialized, highly coordinated care.

Our faculty and trainees contributed to two chapters in the 2025 textbook " and : Classification, Management, and Treatment", covering important topics in complex spine tumor care:

• Angiographic embolization of spinal neoplasms
• Scoring systems and management of metastatic spine tumors

For patients, this means looking at the full picture: the tumor, the spine, the nervous system, overall health, imaging, surgical risk, and treatment goals.

Academic contributions like these help advance the field while supporting the kind of thoughtful, evidence-informed care patients deserve.
