💙 Eat Well Buffalo | The Longevity Secret We Don’t Talk About Enough
What if one of the most important things we can do for our health has less to do with what’s on our plate—and more to do with who’s sitting beside us?
These photos remind us that longevity isn’t only about eating nourishing food, moving our bodies, or getting enough sleep. The Blue Zones research points again and again to the importance of connection, belonging, purpose, and caring for one another.

A meal shared with a friend.
A day exploring a city with someone you love.
Cooking together.
Showing up for family.
Laughing until your cheeks hurt.
Making time for the people who make life feel full.

These aren’t extras. They are part of a healthy life.

Food nourishes the body—but friendship nourishes the whole person. ❤️

So this week, Eat Well Buffalo invites you to make your longevity plan a little more delicious:

🥗 Share a meal
👩‍🍳 Cook with someone
☕ Call a friend
🚶‍♀️ Take a walk together
❤️ Check in on someone you care about
😂 And never underestimate the health benefits of a good laugh

Because perhaps the best longevity habit of all is simply staying connected.

Eat well. Live well. Love well. Live longer—together.

❤️ Cooking Is Everything
Some lessons are taught in a classroom. The best ones are taught in a kitchen.
The photo on the bottom is my mom in the 1960s, working as a Home Economist — teaching, cooking, sharing, and showing people that food could be so much more than something we simply put on a plate.

The photo on top is me in 2026, doing my best to carry that lesson forward.

My mom is 96 years old now, and she remains one of my greatest teachers, leaders, and role models. She taught me that cooking is a skill worth sharing — because when we know how to cook, we have more power over what we eat, how we nourish ourselves, and how we care for the people we love.

That's really at the heart of Eat Well Buffalo.

I want to encourage more people to get in the kitchen.
Cook something simple.
Try something new.
Teach your kids.
Share a recipe.
Invite someone to cook with you.
Make food from scratch when you can.
And most importantly — enjoy it.

Because cooking isn't just about food.

It's about health. It's about connection. It's about confidence. It's about passing something meaningful from one generation to the next.

My mom was doing this work more than 70 years ago.

Today, I'm still learning from her — and trying to share what she taught me with our community.

Mom, thank you for being my teacher then, and my role model. I love you. ❤️

Let's keep cooking.
Let's keep learning.
Let's Eat Well Buffalo. 🥕🍎🥦

Are you ready to indulge in a sweet treat that nourishes your body and soul? 💖 Imagine sinking your teeth into these decadent, healthy, and easy-to-make BlueBerry Dark Chocolate clusters! My sister, Sue, discovered her sweet tooth was no match for these heavenly bites when she visited from Oregon. Together, we whipped up a batch in minutes, melting 74% cacao chocolate chips over low heat and mixing in organic, washed, and dried blueberries. We dropped spoonfuls onto parchment paper, sprinkled with sea salt, and considered adding chopped walnuts for an extra dose of healthy fat. In just 30 minutes, they were ready to devour! 🍓❄️ If you're struggling to find healthy indulgences that satisfy your cravings, I'm here to help you rise above! Let me guide you to create clusters and energy balls that will empower you to stay on track and shine your light! 💫

One of the commonalities that the Blue Zones have is their residents are able to identify their purpose. In other words, what gets you up in the morning (besides coffee!)?

When the sun comes through your window think about what your "why" is. Work, family, community, nature, friends, or something else. Okinawans call it ikigai or “reason for being.” Costa Ricans call it “plan de vida.” Most commonly, though, it’s simply referred to as your life’s purpose. Knowing your sense of purpose might add an additional 7. years of extra life expectancy. Eat Well Buffalo encourages you to give thought to this powerful question for so many reasons.

Yesterday, my incredible mom, Shirley, celebrated her 96th birthday, surrounded by loved ones from all over the country on a Zoom call, sharing stories and memories that warmed our hearts. ❤️
