Preparing for my documentary… 🎬🤎

Except this chapter feels a little different.

Preparing to welcome my third baby after experiencing a premature delivery and the NICU means I’m not just preparing for birth—I’m preparing my heart to believe that this story can be different.

Pregnancy after the NICU is celebrating every milestone while quietly remembering the ones you didn’t get to experience before.

It’s excitement mixed with worry.

Faith mixed with memories.

Gratitude mixed with “God, please let us make it a little further.”
And now, as we prepare to welcome Baby Isaiah, I’m choosing to walk into this delivery expecting something different.
A healthy baby. A healthy mama. A full-term delivery. A different birth story. 🤎

As mothers, we’re often the first to check on everyone else.

But today, I want to encourage you to check on you.

Not the version of you that’s getting everything done.

The version of you that’s carrying the mental load, navigating the emotions, and quietly showing up every single day.

This month’s Wellness Wednesday series is about making space for your healing, your rest, and your well-being.

If I could sit beside the version of myself in the NICU, I don’t think I’d try to explain everything that was about to happen.

Instead, I’d remind her that she doesn’t have to have all the answers to keep moving forward.

I’d tell her to trust her instincts.
To trust the process.
And most importantly, to trust God.

Because although the days would feel long, the tears would be many, and the uncertainty would be overwhelming, none of it would be wasted.

One day, she’d watch her tiny fighter laugh, grow, learn, and thrive.

One day, she’d realize that God wasn’t just working in her daughter’s life—He was transforming hers too.

This journey didn’t just change my daughter.

It changed me.

So if you’re sitting beside an incubator today, or walking through a season that feels uncertain, let this be your reminder:

✨ Keep showing up.
✨ Keep praying.
✨ Keep believing.
✨ Keep trusting.

Your story isn’t over.

There was a time when I thought resilience meant holding it all together.

Then motherhood happened.
Then the NICU happened.

I learned that resilience isn’t about pretending you’re okay. It’s not about suppressing fear, grief, uncertainty, or exhaustion.

It’s about continuing forward while feeling all of it.

As a NICU mom, I experienced emotions I didn’t even have words for—fear, guilt, helplessness, gratitude, hope, and heartbreak—sometimes all in the same day.

In this clip from my conversation on Reimagining Resilience, I share how emotion showed up for me through motherhood and my NICU journey, and how resilience became less about being strong and more about being honest.

One of the questions I’ve been asked is:

“What was the hardest part of the NICU that nobody prepared you for?”

The truth is, there wasn’t just one thing.

It was the separation.
The guilt.
The uncertainty.
The feeling of being pulled between two children who both needed me.

The NICU taught me strength, but it also revealed wounds I didn’t know I carried.

For many NICU parents, the waiting room became a familiar place. Waiting for updates. Waiting for progress. Waiting for the day we could finally bring our babies home.

But life still brings waiting seasons long after the NICU.

Waiting for healing.
Waiting for provision.
Waiting for direction.
Waiting for prayers to be answered.

One thing I’ve learned is that God is not only present in the breakthrough—He is present in the waiting too.

If you’re walking through a season of uncertainty, may you be reminded today that God’s presence doesn’t depend on having all the answers.

As NICU moms, medical moms, and caregivers, many of us have learned to operate in survival mode.

We keep pushing.
Keep carrying.
Keep showing up.

And somewhere along the way, we start believing that rest is something we have to earn.

But Scripture tells a different story.

Rest was never designed as a reward for finishing everything on your list.
It was built into God’s design from the very beginning.

If you’ve been waiting for permission to slow down, this is it.

You don’t have to earn rest, Mama.
