Maurice-Mandel Mildiner was born on February 21, 1928. His brother, Bernard, was born in 1927. They belonged to a religious Jewish family in France. On October 28, 1941, Maurice-Mandel celebrated his Bar Mitzvah, and this photograph was taken on that occasion. He resided with his family at 45 rue de Palikao, a location that still exists today. On August 26, 1942, Maurice-Mandel and his brother were deported to Auschwitz on convoy 24, where they were tragically murdered in the gas chambers. Maurice-Mandel was merely fourteen years old. Sara Glaser was born on January 5, 1926, in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, to Jewish parents Esther and David. As the eldest of four siblings, she had three younger brothers and sisters: Miep (b. 1927), Freida (b. 1928), and Abraham (b. 1932).

The Glaser family resided at Parkweg 36. In 1940, when Sara was just fourteen years old, the N***s invaded the Netherlands. As the occupation progressed, conditions for the Jewish population deteriorated significantly. By the summer of 1942, the N***s imposed increasingly severe restrictions on Jews, leading to mass deportations from their homes to concentration camps.

On December 2, 1942, the Glaser family went into hiding. The following day, a police report was filed due to their departure from home without authorization, which was subsequently published in the local newspaper. A N**i officer soon took over their residence and occupied it for the ensuing years.

Sara and her family found refuge on a farm in Herveld, where the farmer allowed them to work in exchange for shelter. However, news of their secretive existence eventually reached an unnamed individual. This individual, a psychiatric patient, inadvertently betrayed them, unaware of the severe repercussions of his disclosure.

In June 1943, Sara and her family were apprehended and transported to Westerbork, from where they were subsequently sent to Auschwitz. They arrived at Auschwitz on July 2, where the entire family was tragically gassed to death upon arrival. Sara was merely seventeen years old at the time. May her memory be a blessing.

Iudit Edith and Szlomo Judkovitz were siblings of Hungarian-Jewish descent, born in Nagyvarad (Oradea). Iudit entered the world on November 18, 1928, while Szlomo was born on an unspecified date in 1925. Their parents were Eugen and Margit Judkovitz.

Oradea was a vibrant town rich in life and culture. Throughout its history, Oradea changed hands numerous times, primarily between Hungary and Romania, and it was part of Romania at the time of the siblings' birth. In 1940, it reverted to Hungarian control. The Jewish community faced severe hardships following the N**i invasion in 1944.

In the spring and summer of 1944, 27,000 Jews, including Iudit and Szlomo, were confined to a ghetto under dire conditions. The Jewish population of Oradea constituted 30% of the city's inhabitants, yet they were crammed into a space meant for only one-fifteenth of the population. The living conditions were so dire that a single room often had to accommodate fourteen or fifteen Jews.

In June 1944, Iudit and Szlomo, along with their parents, were deported to Auschwitz. Tragically, all four family members lost their lives in the camp. Iudit was just fifteen years old, while Szlomo was approximately eighteen or nineteen. May their memories serve as a blessing.

Helena Stępień was born on March 23, 1923, in Krzeszowice, Poland. She identified as a Christian. Although her specific job is not mentioned, she was a worker. On January 19, 1943, Helena was taken to the Auschwitz concentration camp. Upon her arrival, her head was shaved, she received new clothing, was photographed, and was assigned the tattoo number 29953. Helena endured months of mistreatment in the camp, but tragically passed away on June 23, 1943, under circumstances that remain unclear. The horrors she must have witnessed are beyond comprehension. She was only twenty years old. May she rest in peace, Helena.

Vera Beck was born on May 13, 1932. Vera was of Jewish descent, the daughter of Deno and Margit Beck. She had an elder sister named Klara. Vera's birthplace was Subotica, Yugoslavia, which is present-day Serbia. The Beck family, consisting of four members, led a peaceful and joyful life in Subotica, a city that housed approximately 6,000 Jews. The family had resided in the area for generations, as the city was part of Austria-Hungary from 1867 to 1918, and they identified as Hungarian.

In 1941, Hungarian troops took control of the city, citing the presence of many ethnic Hungarians. By 1944, the N***s had occupied Hungary, including Subotica. In April of that year, a small unofficial ghetto was created. In June 1944, twelve-year-old Vera, along with her sister and parents, was forcibly removed from their home. They were instructed to pack their belongings as if embarking on a journey. Subsequently, they were held at gunpoint in a four-story mill with 3,500 others. They endured two days in that mill without food, water, or sanitation. Following this, they were deported to Auschwitz in cattle cars, again without food, water, or sanitation. Many perished during the journey. Vera and her family survived the trip to Auschwitz; however, tragically, Vera and her parents were sent to the gas chambers and killed. Her sister, Klara, survived Auschwitz and later immigrated to Israel. Currently, around 400 Jews reside in Subotica, and the synagogue built in 1901 remains standing. Alice Wallersteinová was born on September 29, 1935. She was of Jewish descent, the daughter of Bedrich and Berta, and her birthplace was Prague, Czechoslovakia. Her residence was located at Haštalská 6, Prague I. In 1938, the N***s annexed Czechoslovakia. On July 2, 1942, four years later, Alice and her parents were forcibly removed from their home and deported to the Terezín ghetto on transport AAl, no. 83. Although it was officially designated as a ghetto, Terezín operated more like an internment camp. Transports of individuals were constantly arriving and departing. The conditions within the ghetto were appalling. A total of 33,000 individuals perished within the confines of Terezín, with over 88,000 others being sent to death camps from the ghetto.

Despite the omnipresent threat of death that loomed over the area, the inmates engaged in a vibrant cultural life. Concerts, lectures, and educational opportunities for children thrived in Terezín. It represented a brief period of calm before the impending storm. Individuals of various nationalities were interned there. Unfortunately, the specifics of Alice’s experiences in the ghetto remain unknown.

On September 6, 1943, she was deported from the relative safety of Terezín to Auschwitz, where she was murdered immediately upon her arrival. There were 2,451 individuals on her transport, of whom only 11 survived. Alice was not yet eight years old. May her memory be a blessing.

Charlotte and Gabriel Dudkiewicz were Jewish siblings born in Paris, France. Charlotte was born on November 10, 1936, while Gabriel was born on July 6, 1933. The first names of their parents remain unknown. They were Polish Jewish refugees. The family resided at 75 rue de Turenne, a building that still exists today. F***y Hirschfeld was born on September 9, 1919. She was of Jewish descent, the daughter of Isac and Lydia (née Zirinsky), and her birthplace was Liepaja, Latvia.

In July and December of 1941, 5,000 out of the 5,700 Jews residing in Liepaja were executed. Only 700 Jews were spared from this massacre. F***y and her sister Maria were among the fortunate few. Shortly thereafter, the Liepaja ghetto, also referred to as Libau, was established. Only skilled laborers, including F***y and her sister, were allowed to remain in the ghetto.

Despite having work permits, F***y and Maria were soon considered no longer valuable. Around 1943, they were deported to Auschwitz. Both sisters survived the initial selection process and were forced into slave labor. Eventually, F***y was transferred to the Stutthof concentration camp, marking the last time she would see her sister.

F***y tragically succumbed to starvation and exhaustion in the camp in January 1945. The camp was liberated in May of that same year, but F***y had not yet reached the age of twenty-six. Her sister, however, managed to survive the war.

Michael Mauer was born in September 1929. He was the offspring of Jewish parents, Adolf "Azio" and Lusia Mauer. His birthplace was Tarnopol, Poland, which is present-day Ternopil, Ukraine. At the time of Michael's birth, 44% of the population in his city was Jewish, contributing to a rich and diverse cultural environment.

Tarnopol fell under German occupation when Operation Barbarossa commenced in June 1941, marking the invasion of the Soviet Union. Within the first week of N**i control, 2,000 Jews were brutally murdered. Although Michael and his family survived this initial wave of violence, their safety was far from assured. Shortly after the initial killings, a violent pogrom erupted, lasting several days, during which schools, synagogues, and businesses were set ablaze. Those Jews who remained in the vicinity faced ex*****on, with another 2,000 lives lost in just four days. Attempts to flee Tarnopol were met with gunfire. In September, around the time of Michael's twelfth birthday, the Tarnopol ghetto was established.

Life within the ghetto, which accommodated over fifteen thousand individuals, was nightmarish. The mortality rate was alarmingly high, prompting the Judenrat (the local Jewish council) to raise sanitation issues due to the decomposing bodies that filled the streets. In August 1942, the ghetto's liquidation commenced, with transport after transport arriving to deport Jews to extermination camps.

Michael and his family managed to evade the transports by going into hiding, where they remained for two years. Regrettably, the specifics of their time in hiding remain unknown. They were together, yet we will never comprehend Michael's emotions or the exact circumstances they faced.

What is evident is that in 1944, just prior to the Soviet takeover of Tarnopol, a surge of Ukrainian Nationalists began to expose Jews in hiding. Approximately 200 Jews were betrayed during this period, all of whom were executed. Given that Michael was shot by Germans in 1944, it is plausible that he met a similar fate. He would have been merely fourteen years old. May his memory be a blessing.

Both of his parents also fell victim to the atrocities. His page of testimony was submitted by his uncle, who survived.

Richard Solomon Linhart was born on January 25, 1934. He was the son of religious Jewish parents, Greta and Abraham Linhart, who resided in Sambor, Poland, now known as Sambir in Ukraine. Prior to the war, 29% of Sambor's population was Jewish.

In September 1939, German forces temporarily occupied Sambor before it was transferred to the USSR a few weeks later under the German-Soviet Frontier Treaty. Following the Soviet takeover, numerous affluent and middle-class Jews were deported to Siberia. Additionally, many civilians were executed on the spot for being suspected "enemies of the people." Richard was only five years old at that time.

In 1941, the situation for the Jews of Sambor deteriorated significantly. On June 22, the Germans re-entered Sambor and seized control of the town. A violent pogrom took place on June 30 and July 1, 1941, resulting in the deaths of approximately one hundred Jewish civilians. Shortly thereafter, the Jews of Sambor and surrounding areas were expelled and forced into what would later be known as the Sambor ghetto. The ghetto was sealed just days before Richard's eighth birthday.

Conditions in the ghetto were dire, with rampant disease and starvation. A strict curfew was enforced, and anyone caught violating it was shot on sight. Richard spent two years living in the ghetto, unable to experience a normal childhood either physically or mentally. His only offense was being born a Jew.

On June 8, 1943, just before the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, the Sambor ghetto was liquidated. He and his nine-year-old friend, Irma Frischer, were lined up against a wall in the ghetto and shot in the head. His lifeless body was left on the floor of the ghetto. His parents managed to survive the war.
