My wife and I have both read "What Works When Memory Stops Working: Charting a Course", and we only wish that Karin Ericson had written it earlier. Each of us has had a parent with Alzheimers, and Karin's book is filled with useful tips for dealing with the many issues that arise. While we had come up with some of her suggestions on our own, there were a number of things we did not think of and it would have been great to have this little guide handy. Karin's anecdotes leading up to her suggestions also struck chords with each of us (although not always the same chords), making this book an overall enjoyable read in addition to being a "How To" book on dealing with parents with memory issues (and the spouses of such parents as well). I highly recommend this book.

I found this book to be a delightful blend of comic and poignant moments that come when living with a loved one who has Alzheimer’s. I will remember little bits of advice like hearing the music even on dark days and being a good friend when your loved one is confused. I could picture myself in a car singing old songs with this loving family! — a former school teacher with family affected by dementia

It was there that her love of writing and storytelling took off. When not writing, Karin enjoys gardening, traveling, and all activities on Lake Champlain.
