The Samuel Hahnemann You May Not Know...

Most people know Samuel Hahnemann as the founder of homeopathy. But there was much more to the man behind the medicine.

Hahnemann was a physician, chemist, linguist, translator, researcher, author, and healthcare reformer.

He earned his medical degree in 1779 and became highly knowledgeable in chemistry. He mastered 9 different languages and used those skills to translate important scientific and medical works into German.

He was also deeply interested in public health, writing about hygiene, sanitation, nutrition, exercise, ventilation, and healthy living.

Perhaps most surprising, Hahnemann was an early advocate for the humane treatment of people with mental illness. At a time when harsh confinement and punishment were common, he argued that patients should be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect.

His curiosity crossed disciplines. He studied medicine, chemistry, pharmacology, languages, and the effects of medicinal substances, continually questioning the medical practices of his time.

More than two centuries later, Hahnemann is remembered primarily for homeopathy. But understanding the remarkable breadth of his work gives us a fuller picture of the man who developed it.

Physician. Chemist. Linguist. Researcher. Reformer. And ultimately, the founder of homeopathy.

Epidemics That Changed Medicine: Cholera in St. Louis, 1849

In 1849, cholera swept through St. Louis with devastating force. More than 4,000 people died of cholera during the epidemic, representing approximately 4% of the city's population.

Amid the crisis, two homeopathic physicians (Pulte and Ehrmann) documented their seemingly astonishing results treating cholera patients.

Their published record reported:

• 1,613 cases of cholera treated homeopathically
• 51 deaths
• Mortality rate: 3.2%

The results sounded so extraordinary that critics accused the physicians of falsifying them. The results were so difficult to believe that a commission chaired by Alphonso Taft, the father of a future U.S. president, investigated them house by house. The special commission fully exonerated Pulte and Ehrmann and verified the accuracy of their claims.

The numbers offer a fascinating glimpse into the practice of homeopathy during one of the most devastating epidemics in 19th-century America and underscore the tensions homeopathic successes created in the field of medicine.

Cholesterol isn’t a poison; it’s an essential building block!

It plays an important role in supporting cell structure, hormone production, and nerve function.

While LDL cholesterol is often considered harmful and linked to arterial plaque, its impact on cardiovascular health depends on the size of its particles. If you have high levels of large, buoyant LDL, it is not pathogenic!

If you’re on a low-carb diet and you don’t have insulin resistance, you’ll have more large, buoyant LDL.

In contrast, low cholesterol in older adults is associated with higher rates of death from all causes. It is linked to lowered immunity, depression, and memory and hormone issues.
