A lot of things have happened this past year, Randy was doing very well and was stable until he got RSV in February. He ended up getting two blood clots in his lung. He was given a blood thinner to take for 3 months to dissolve the blood clots and it did. His platelets got down to 35,000.
Randy did recover best he could but did have breathing problems and was put on oxygen. He worked so hard to get off the oxygen which he did in April.
In April we went to Salt Lake for him to complete the evaluation for transplant. He passed every test except for one. The doctors in Salt Lake stated since having RSV, his body needs to recover more. We waited until he was done with the blood thinner and he redid the test in June. The test showed that his numbers were to high for transplant. The doctors in Salt Lake notified us in July that he will need to come to Salt Lake to do a procedure and that will determine if he can get a transplant. He went to Salt Lake in August and had the procedure, Morgan was there with him. After 20 minutes, Morgan got the call stated that his numbers are not too high and he can get a transplant.
During this past year, we lost hope and we didn’t know what will happen. We are in the final stages of Randy getting listed. The last requirement is to be financially stable to relocate for at least 3 months to Salt Lake. Morgan has started a Go Fund Me page to help.…..in a couple months, Randy could have a new liver!!!!

Randy had his appointment in Salt Lake with his Hepatologist. Randy’s liver has not gotten any worse or better, his MELD score is a 13. The TIPS procedure is still performing good. His doctor said that it can be good for years or his liver can fail at any time. Randy needs to continue to follow his diet and take his meds.
His doctor is going to take his case to the transplant team at their next meeting. He also said that Randy might be able to have a living donor. If that is the case, once there is a donor and everything else is done, he could have the surgery done. He wouldn’t have to wait until he is real sick to get a new liver. This is great news. Randy is A positive and the living donor can only be O or A. The donor can’t smoke, do any drugs or drink. The person needs to be healthy and a healthy weight.
I wasn’t able to attend his appointment but Morgan and his brother Cory were there.
I want to give a shout out to his brother Cory for going with Randy to his appointment. I didn’t want Randy to drive by himself and he didn’t want to fly. Thank you Cory!
