•Play a mother role to someone
•Dads who are also mothers

To those who mourn:

•The child they never conceived
•The child they did not get to hold
•The child they did not get to hold long enough

To those who grieve:

•The mother they lost to death, changes due to medical/mental/addictive illness, estrangement
•The mother they were not able to know
•Or kind of relationship with their mother they wanted but never got to have

You are seen and cherished today and all days. Love on your mother, mother figure, child(ren) and self today. If you are grieving today, take care of you. Look at yourself with and give yourself the love you long to receive or give this Mother’s Day. The field of sociogenomics shows that your internal state can influence how your genes are expressed, especially those involved in inflammation and immune function.

When the brain perceives ongoing stress, whether from external pressures or persistent negative thought patterns, it activates the body’s stress response. This increases cortisol and inflammatory signaling, which can shift gene expression toward a more inflammatory state.

Over time, this pattern, known as the conserved transcriptional response to adversity, is linked to a higher risk of chronic disease.

On the other hand, when the nervous system is more regulated, through practices like mindfulness, movement, quality sleep, and social connection, the body sends different signals. These can help reduce inflammatory gene activity and support repair and resilience.

Your brain and body are in constant communication.
