☀️ SUNBURNS & SUNLESS TANS DON'T PLAY WELL TOGETHER ☀️
This client arrived with no visible peeling & no obvious sunburn. She also didn't mention she'd spent several hours outdoors in the sun a few days prior.
The result? UV-damaged skin that began shedding beneath a fresh spray tan.
Sun damage often starts before you can see it. If your skin is about to peel, your spray tan will likely develop unevenly, fade patchy, or lift prematurely.
If you love your sunless tans, here's how to help them look their best:
✨ Avoid prolonged unprotected sun exposure, especially between 11 AM–4 PM. I'm not telling you to avoid the sun, just be intentional 🤍
✨ Wear & reapply a quality, non toxic mineral sunscreen when outdoors for longer than 20 min, your fair skinned or UV is high.
✨ Consider a cute hat & UPF clothing if you burn easily or will be outside for extended periods.
✨ Moisturize daily—with quality ingredients, especially after sun exposure.
✨ Hydrate! Healthy skin starts from within. Drink your water.
And here's the honest truth:
If you're peeling, recently sunburned, or your skin has experienced enough UV exposure to trigger cell damage—even if you can't see it yet—your spray tan is probably not going to behave.
Will I still spray you? In most cases yes, as long as there's no open blisters & no contraindications & you understand the risks; You are an adult making informed decisions about a service your paying for.
Will it make my perfectionist heart hurt a little when the tan doesn't develop the way I know it could have?
Absolutely 😅.
But I'd much rather educate you beforehand so you can get the beautiful, even, long lasting results we both want.
Your skin always tells the truth, even when it doesn't look sunburned yet. ☀️🤎
