Shirley Whitlinger is a volunteer with Good Samaritan Hospice, a mission of Concordia Lutheran Ministries. Through her work, members of our community are able to hold their loved ones close throughout their grief journey. Every stitch is a gift and an act of love from someone who truly radiates care for others.

Shirley welcomed us into her home for an interview… but the more time we spent with her, the more we knew all of you would want to go back for another visit just as much as we did.

Concordia Missions recently partnered with Armstrong County Action Partnership (ACCAP) to help support individuals and families struggling to meet their needs. 💙

A collaborative donation from Concordia Haven residents and the Concordia Visiting Nurses Cabot team amounted to three pallets of food and essential items!

💡 Did you know ACCAP supports 16 food banks across Armstrong County, with additional weekly pop-up distributions every Friday at its warehouse in Kittanning?

💡 Did you also know ACCAP supports a Senior Box Program that helps improve access to nutritious food for low-income adults age 60 and older?

💡 Finally, did you know YOU can make a difference for neighbors experiencing food insecurity? Everyone can play a part in supporting our community by volunteering, donating food and essential items or simply checking in on a neighbor who may need a helping hand.

Yes, in many cases, it does!

Medicare may cover home health care when it is ordered by a physician, the patient meets Medicare’s definition of homebound and care is provided by a Medicare-certified home health agency.

When Medicare’s eligibility requirements are met, covered home health services may come at no cost to the patient.

Concordia Missions partnered with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank (GPCFB) throughout August to help address food insecurity across our region. Employees and residents got involved with food and fund drives and hands-on volunteer service. When we come together, we realize that those who face food insecurity are not a statistic, they are our neighbors.

Behind every number is a neighbor. With that in mind, here are a few numbers that tell the story of food insecurity in our region – and what can happen when a community comes together to help:

The approximate number of local families served at the Butler City Farmers’ Market on Aug. 25. Concordia employees and their family members worked alongside the GPCFB team to help ensure our neighbors had food to take home.

292,000
The number of neighbors – 1 in 8 people – experiencing food insecurity across GPCFB’s 11-county service area in southwestern Pennsylvania.

53 million
The number of meals distributed annually across southwestern Pennsylvania by GPCFB and its network of more than 1,000 agencies, partners and programs. Together, this network helps serve thousands of our neighbors each month.
