stand
not because it is easy
but because it is sacred
because your spine
was forged
in the phoenix fire
of every woman
who came before you
you are the descendant
of witches who refused to burn
queens who ruled barefoot
with crows in their hair
and wild girls who carved poems
into the bark of the world
so they would never be forgotten
speak
because silence
is a false language
forced upon your native tongue
they taught you to whisper
but your soul came here
to sing
to roar
to dance truth
over the spine
of the earth
resist
the story that says
you must be small
to be loved
your grandmotherβs goddess
was a woman who ate
mountains for breakfast
and picked her teeth
with the bones of trees
unbind your hunger
uncage your joy
shake your hips into galaxies
expand
because you are
not here to fit in
you are here to awaken
to light lanterns
in the minds of sleeping stars
you are not a rebellion
you are the return
of something holy
so when they try
to unmake you
with doubt
with shame
with fear
remember
you were formed
of comets and coronas
of rune storm and battle cry
you do not owe them
your silence
you owe the world
your fire
speak, my love
chant wail
spill scream
tell shout declare
sing
like a goddess
who finally remembers
her true name
is a song

This page is my tribe's Red Tent Blanket Fort, and I write to find all the misfits and weirdos who belong in here with me. We have snacks. Spread the word! More about the fort: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1393715445036560&set=pb.100031943546696.-2207520000&type=3
Times are dicey out there, friends, and free speech has gotten quite expensive. Please stay in touch with me by joining my mailing list here https://angisullins.com/get-your-muse-letter-2/. Itβs the way I can reach you to tell you about public appearances, live readings, and any chance we have to get together as a tribe in person. Itβs the best way to keep our independence in tact and the power to communicate alive, protected from being silenced.
