As we begin the new year, it may also be time to get your employees tested again.

OSHA’s respiratory protection standard 29CFR1910.134, requires all tight-fitting respirator masks complete an annual fit test. This certifies that your employee’s respirator works effectively to protect them from dangerous substances in the work environment.

If your work environment exposes you to airborne hazards such as harmful dusts, fumes, or gases, then wearing a respirator mask can protect you.

A Fit test is required for all tight-fitting respirator masks according to the OSHA respiratory protection standard, 29CFR1910.134. Each test is individually conducted by a trained technician to ensure that the right size and mask fit accurately. A fitting must be completed prior to primary use, as changes occur, and conducted yearly.

How often do I need a fit test?

Respirator Fit Testing ensures that every individual is provided an level of protection against airborne hazards. Each test needs to be completed annually to ensure your mask continues to fit you appropriately. Since each brand, model and size fits differently, a fit test should be completed each time you are required to wear a new model, type/brand or size.
