POST-OP LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE
Let’s talk about post-op lymphatic drainage and why it can be such a helpful part of recovery.
First and foremost, lymphatic drainage should only be performed after you’ve been cleared by your surgeon. Every surgery and every recovery is different, so your surgeon’s instructions always come first.
After procedures such as a tummy tuck, liposuction, BBL, or other cosmetic surgeries, swelling and fluid buildup are a normal part of the healing process. Some surgeons recommend gentle manual lymphatic drainage as part of post-op care to help support the body as it heals.
Potential benefits of post-op lymphatic drainage include:
* Encouraging movement of excess lymphatic fluid
* Helping reduce swelling and puffiness
* Supporting healthy circulation and lymphatic flow
* Helping relieve that tight, heavy, or “full” feeling from swelling
* Supporting the body’s natural healing process
* Improving comfort and mobility as swelling decreases
* Helping manage areas of fluid buildup when appropriate
* Providing gentle, supportive care throughout recovery
One important clarification: lymphatic drainage does not remove surgical air from the body. Postoperative trapped gas or air is generally reabsorbed naturally. The focus of lymphatic drainage is primarily on fluid movement and swelling.
Post-op care is never one-size-fits-all. We adjust each session based on the procedure performed, where you are in your recovery, and your surgeon’s recommendations.
Your surgery may be over, but your recovery deserves just as much care.
