In Gloucester, our school nurses do far more than tend to scrapes and sniffles. They are healthcare experts, problem solvers, and trusted advocates who keep our kids healthy, safe, and ready to learn. They manage chronic conditions, respond to emergencies, support mental wellness, coordinate care, and notice when something isn’t right. So we know you agree that every school RN in Gloucester is an invaluable resource worth protecting.

Stay tuned as we continue to share how school RNs make a powerful difference in Gloucester schools and for Gloucester students.

H. 4767: An Act Requiring Health Care Employers to Develop and Implement Programs to Prevent Workplace Violence (H.4767) unanimously passed the Massachusetts House of Representatives with strong bipartisan support in November 2025, advancing to the State Senate for consideration. The bill is now in the Senate Committee on Ways and Means. We have until the end of the legislative session on July 31st to get the bill passed in the Massachusetts Senate and signed by the Governor.

LIVE from BFMC: Nurses demand state Senators pass H.4767 to prevent workplace violence!

Every 36 minutes, a healthcare worker in Massachusetts experiences workplace violence. Take three minutes now to help us pass this crucial legislation and protect nurses and healthcare professionals in hospitals:

👩‍⚕️ Wear a scrub top and/or a stethoscope.
📝 Using a marker and printer paper, write 1–3 words describing violence you’ve experienced at work: punched, threatened, spat on, kicked, racially targeted, shoved, etc.
📸 Hold the sign and snap a selfie! Don't include any patients, charts, Rx bottles, etc.

Upload it here by 9 AM on Thursday, May 28: https://www.dropbox.com/request/upt2l156vflbe4dykruw

We stand in solidarity with our labor brothers and sisters and offer our deepest condolences for this tragic loss.

On Saturday night, May 23rd, Boston Firefighter and Marine veteran Robert “BK” Kilduff, Jr. made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

BK, a member of Rescue Company 2, suffered catastrophic injuries after falling from the third floor of a burning home at 18 Treadway Road in Dorchester. Despite the extraordinary efforts of fellow firefighters on scene, Boston EMS, and the staff at Boston Medical Center, BK succumbed to his injuries.

He leaves behind two adult children, a loving girlfriend, and her children.

BK dedicated his life to serving others. Whether as a United States Marine, a Boston firefighter, or during his 15 years working for the Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts, BK was always willing to step up and help anyone in need. He was known throughout the PFFM and IAFF as someone who could always be counted on, no matter the task, the hour, or the challenge.

His commitment to the fire service, organized labor, and helping others left a lasting impact on so many people across Massachusetts and beyond.

BK’s loss is being felt deeply by his family, friends, fellow firefighters, and the communities he spent his life protecting and serving. During this incredibly difficult time, we are asking for your support for those he leaves behind.

Please consider making a donation in memory of Robert “BK” Kilduff, Jr. Every contribution, no matter the amount, will help support his family and honor the legacy of a man who gave so much to others throughout his life.

Thank you for your support, prayers, and solidarity.

Last July, 61% of patients in one unit had a special risk assessment, meaning the patient has a history of su***de, violence, fire setting, or problematic sexual behavior.

“This tells you that our patient forensic populations are going up, and their needs are going up. These individuals come in, and they essentially get dropped in the middle of a unit that has 60-year-old men and women with medical conditions who are there for civil reasons,” said Gregory Plante, a representative of the Massachusetts Nurses Association who works as a clinical psychologist at Tewksbury.

A series of violent incidents at the state hospital raised questions about how to balance treatment with safety.

BMC South RNs and Healthcare Professionals Cast Overwhelming Vote to Reject BMC Administration’s “Last, Best & Final Offer” 💪

“With this vote we are sending a clear message that what BMC has proposed and the bullying manner in which they have proposed it is unacceptable to all the staff who have stayed here through years of turmoil and chronic under staffing,” said Maureen Healy, RN, a longtime nurse at BMC South and co-chair of the MNA bargaining unit.

Just a few weeks ago we spoke with Medical Technologist Lorri Lowe about the unacceptable health insurance offered by BMC South. Listen to her story below!
