Iāve been trying to live! š¤
Social media as a small business owner is draining. It feels like youāre in some kind triathlon or something. You have to continue to train to be the best. Thereās a nail tech on every corner, a hairstylist, a tattoo artist⦠what makes you any better?
We donāt talk about this enough in the industry. Yeah you can do good work, you can be kind ā¦but can you post it on social media? Because these days thatās what makes you cool. How many followers do you have? These types of pressure that no one talks about as a small business owner.
if you know me, you know that I have been on social media for years and I have kept it a constant. I typically tag like share repost engage as much as possible. I support other businesses. And try my best to update life on social media to keep my algorithm going so that you keep seeing my post. Because if you keep seeing my post, youāll go ahead and book that nail set or Tattooā¦
But frankly yāall, Iām exhausted. All it does is give people access to your entire life. And make you feel like you have to constantly post in order to get some kind of badge honor. I see people all the time who take breaks and delete their social media. But if I do that, I would lose my business. I lose time with the people that I love. Because my real life keeps me so incredibly busy that social media cuts into everything.
From the moment that I wake up, I get on my phone, while Iām taking my kids to school, while getting ready for the gym , while going to the gym, while in the bathroom, while getting ready for work, sometimes on the drive to work, and when I get to work, throughout my day, and even after 10 hours of a long day at work, I still come home and entertain that social media Because I know that thatās what sells. Thatās what markets me.
They say social media is free. But at what point do we realize how much it costs? How many times have I pulled out my phone in the middle of my kids school plays? How many times have I taken a picture of my food before getting to eat it because content⦠I donāt feel present in my life. Iām gonna be real with you. It truly sucks.
