Understanding the nutrition label is important.

One part I find that most people don't pay much attention to is the serving size. I usually use BBQ sauce (which is pretty high in sodium and added sugar) a serving is typically 2 TABLESPOONS (measured with an actual tablespoon). That is really not that much. I think most people eat twice that.

Another part that is important is added sugar... try to eliminate that.

For good protein balance drop the last number from the calories, if that equals the protein it's a good protein source. (This example is NOT a good protein source)

LOOK AT THE INGREDIENTS if there are a lot of ingredients you can't pronounce and looks like a science experiment don't eat it (you are the science experiment)

Try to eat a many whole foods as possible. No ingredient list needed, or minimal ingredients. Beverages count here too.

I always say if it comes in a box, a bag, a package or wrapper it's probably best to avoid it. (This is documented in my charts!)

Hard to believe it’s already been one year since we officially launched Hanson Medical Services! 🎉

We started this journey because we believe folks in Southern Illinois shouldn't have to settle for less just because of where we live. We wanted to build something permanent for our neighbors, and thanks to you, we’re just getting started.

Here’s what our first year of 'Independence' looked like:

🏠 Rooted in the Community: After serving you from the top floor for the past two years, our founder, Dr. Hanson, reached a massive milestone this December by officially acquiring the entire $6M facility. Transitioning from tenants to local owners of this building is his promise to our region: we aren't just here for a season; we have put down deep roots for the long haul.

💼 Taking Care of Our Own: We believe in keeping Southern Illinois strong. For every 1 physician, about 17 local jobs are created—and we are proud to be a homegrown employer. We want to see our local economy thrive, not just see our neighbors' money go to a large hospital board room across state lines.

🤝 Serving the Region: Our team is honored to oversee the care for 5 area nursing homes, 2 assisted living centers, and the specialized team at NeuroRestorative for those recovering from traumatic injury.

🚗 House Calls are Back: For our neighbors who can’t get out easily, our Home Visit program brings our doctor to your door. We believe in neighbor-to-neighbor care, the old-fashioned way.

🙏 A Mission to Serve: We believe everyone deserves a helping hand, a chance at recovery, and a better life. From our Suboxone services for those fighting for their future to our 'never turn a neighbor away' policy—our doors are open to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay.

What’s Next? Construction is moving fast on our new on-site Pharmacy to save you a trip, and we’re building a new Behavioral Health & Counseling area to support our community’s mental health.

Hanson Medical Services is being PROACTIVE about the weather and WILL BE closed Monday 1/26. The plan is to be open for regular operations on Tuesday. Look for announcements in case of change.

Unlike hospital nurses, our nurses won't be going to work on the snow day.
