Low-level microcurrent therapy stimulates cellular repair, reduces pain, and improves muscle function. It's particularly effective for TMJ disorders, facial pain, and supporting myofunctional therapy outcomes by promoting proper muscle balance and reducing dysfunction.

What if myofunctional therapy doesn't work for me?

Our commitment includes comprehensive assessment to determine if you're a good candidate, 30-day evaluation period to track progress, flexible treatment plan adjustments based on your response, and clinical support throughout your entire journey.

We don't treat everyone, only candidates likely to benefit from myofunctional therapy. Transparent process ensures realistic expectations and measurable outcomes for TMJ pain, sleep issues, breathing dysfunction, and orthodontic concerns.

Learning about oral-systemic health, myofunctional therapy, or airway wellness might feel overwhelming at first. That's okay. Every journey starts with curiosity and willingness to learn. Whether you're a patient seeking answers or a practitioner expanding your skills, embrace the learning process.

Most people never think about where their tongue rests. But resting tongue posture affects airway patency, jaw development, breathing patterns, and even head and neck alignment. When the tongue habitually rests low or forward, it creates a cascade of compensatory patterns throughout the body.

The OPA trains correct resting tongue posture using tactile feedback, teaching the tongue where it belongs, so that position becomes the new default.

Most people have never heard of myofunctional therapy. Which is wild, because the muscles involved, your tongue, lips, and cheeks, are doing something every few seconds of every single day. Breathing, swallowing, chewing. That's thousands of repetitions of whatever pattern you've got, whether it's working for you or against you.

When those patterns are off (think: low tongue rest posture, mouth breathing, tongue thrust on the swallow), the downstream effects aren't just "oral." We're talking airway, sleep, jaw pain, facial development, orthodontic relapse, neck posture. The list is longer than most people expect, and most providers aren't connecting the dots.

That's exactly what myofunctional therapy is designed to do. It's neuromuscular re-education, not just exercises. You're retraining how the muscles of the face and mouth function at rest and during the basic things your body does automatically. And when it works, it works because the underlying pattern has actually changed, not just temporarily corrected.

At Innovative Oral Solutions, this is our foundation. Whether we're working with someone managing TMJ symptoms, a patient who keeps getting told their sleep issues are "stress-related," or a provider looking for better outcomes post-ortho, the orofacial system is always where we start.

If you've never explored myofunctional therapy as part of your or your patients' care, it might be worth a closer look. The research is there. The results are there. It just hasn't gotten the mainstream attention it deserves yet.

We're working on that.

The science underlying the OPA is motor learning theory applied to the orofacial system.

Motor learning, the process by which the nervous system acquires and consolidates skilled movement patterns, depends on three key inputs:
• knowledge of the target position,
• sensory feedback about current position,
• and repetition that gradually reduces the gap between the two.

The OPA provides all three. It creates a clear target position through its physical geometry. It delivers tactile feedback about tongue contact and placement through its surface properties. And it enables high-volume repetition by being worn during sleep and daily routines rather than only during formal exercise sessions.

This is why OPA therapy accelerates outcomes when integrated with active myofunctional therapy: the in-session work establishes the conscious motor pattern, and the OPA-supported wear generalizes that pattern into automatic function. The mechanism is well-established. The application to orofacial rehabilitation is elegant.

Snoring in children is not normal, and it's not something to wait out.

Pediatric snoring is a signal of airway compromise and the downstream consequences of untreated sleep-disordered breathing in children include behavioral difficulties, academic underperformance, growth effects, cardiovascular strain, and compromised immune function. The oral motor and functional airway contributors to pediatric snoring are often highly addressable through early intervention.

The OPA, as part of a myofunctional therapy program tailored for pediatric patients, can support the functional changes that reduce airway obstruction, establish nasal breathing, and improve sleep quality at the age when the developing system is most responsive to functional input.

If your child snores regularly, wakes frequently, sleeps in unusual positions, or presents with chronic fatigue despite adequate sleep hours; a functional oral evaluation is the appropriate next step. Don't normalize what is, in fact, a treatable functional pattern.

If you're an SLP, myofunctional therapist, dentist, orthodontist, ENT, OT, chiropractor, or PT who is seeing patients with oral motor dysfunction, airway concerns, post-frenectomy needs, or speech-motor deficits, the OPA belongs in your clinical toolbox.

It extends the reach of your in-session work into the hours between appointments, reinforcing correct functional patterns through consistent sensory feedback and guided positioning.

Our team at Innovative Oral Solutions works collaboratively with practitioners across disciplines. We can support you with patient referrals for assessments, clinical consultation on OPA protocols for specific patient presentations, and guidance on integrating the device into your existing therapeutic approach.

Reach out to learn more. Your patients will benefit from having a provider who's equipped with the full toolkit that functional oral health requires.

Equiscope microcurrent therapy provides lasting chronic pain relief when combined with maintenance protocol.

After completing initial treatment series (8-12 sessions), most patients maintain improvements with:
• monthly maintenance sessions preventing recurrence
• ongoing lifestyle factors supporting healing (anti-inflammatory diet
• stress management, proper sleep)
• continued exercise and movement within pain-free ranges
• integrated approaches combining microcurrent with myofunctional therapy or physical rehabilitation.

Not lifelong dependency, active maintenance keeping electrical balance optimal.

Realistic expectations: bioelectric medicine addresses dysfunction allowing natural healing, not magic cure eliminating need for self-care.

Stand in front of a mirror and drop your tongue to the floor of your mouth. Notice what happens to your jaw, your neck, your shoulders. Most people feel the chain of compensation immediately: the jaw drops slightly, the head shifts forward, the neck muscles engage.

Now lift your tongue to the roof of your mouth. Feel the difference. This isn't a parlor trick. It's a demonstration of how profoundly oral posture influences the postural system of the entire body. The tongue's resting position influences the tension pattern of the suprahyoid and infrahyoid muscles, which influence cervical alignment, which influences thoracic posture, which influences breathing mechanics.

The OPA trains correct tongue posture and in doing so, supports better postural alignment from the neck down. Physical therapists and chiropractors who work with the OPA as part of a multidisciplinary protocol consistently report that patients maintain their postural corrections better when the oral motor component is being addressed simultaneously.
