The Hartwell Medical CombiCarrierII and EVAC-U-SPLINT products were put to the test again last Saturday night at Round 3 of the World Supercross series during another sold-out event.

Earlier in the day, I had the opportunity to meet with Alpinestars Mobile Medical Crew— Medical Director, Dr. "Doc" Bodnar, who brings some of the most creative and practical insights into product function. He doesn’t pull punches—he’ll tell you exactly what works and what could use refinement—and that’s exactly how it should be. We can conduct all the internal testing and field trials known to mankind, but it’s only when you’re faced with a real-world critical care emergency that you truly understand the value of real-time product performance.

Saturday night’s racing included a couple of serious, all-hands-on-deck incidents that required multiple riders to be assisted off the track by the medical crew. I’m happy to report that the riders involved are doing okay—a testament to the preparedness, teamwork, and equipment on hand.

This past Monday, January 12th, Andrews Athlete led a comprehensive hands-on training and education session with the Miami Marlins Athletic Trainers at their facility.

The seminar was led by Dr. Rod Walters, DA, LAT, ATC, National Director of Athlete Safety, with support and product education provided by Luis Derosa, Account Manager for SAM Medical.

Athletic trainers gained advanced experience using a wide selection of Hartwell Medical FASPLINT® and EVAC-U-SPLINT® products, along with a variety of SAM Medical Splints, reinforcing best practices in immobilization and emergency response. Dr. Walters covered critical topics including airway management, splinting and immobilization, and other advanced technical processes essential for on-field and sideline care.

The session concluded with hands-on simulations and skills station labs, emphasizing a variety of athletic trauma assessment protocols designed to mirror real game-day emergencies. A collaborative and impactful day dedicated to advancing education, preparedness, and athlete safety.

Scary moments on the opening lap of the 2026 Super Motocross Series in Anaheim last Saturday night. We’re relieved to share the good news that Justin Barcia is okay following a frightening crash that initially raised concerns of a serious injury.

The Alpinestars medical crew responded quickly and professionally, carefully assisting Justin off the track using the Hartwell Medical CombiCarrierII to ensure his safety and stabilization.

Justin later shared a positive update on his condition, and like the entire racing community, we are incredibly thankful.

As Halloween approaches, we want to start with a shining educational reminder to stay safe—whether you’re out trick-or-treating, enjoying festivities with friends and family, or simply navigating the darker evenings. Keep an eye out for little ghouls crossing the street, stay aware of your surroundings, and make sure those costumes don’t block your vision or mobility.

A little caution helps keep the holiday fun for everyone. Whether you’re dressing up, handing out candy, or heading into the night for your own adventures, we encourage everyone to keep their wits about them. After all, when the lights flicker and you hear footsteps echoing down an empty hallway… it’s probably nothing. Probably.
