Even the doctor ends up in a boot sometimes.

Dr. Derrington broke his foot recently, and he's noticing what a lot of adults notice.

A kid bumps their head and is back to playing in minutes.
A grown-up injury takes its time.

That gap gets frustrating, especially when you're doing everything you're supposed to and still waiting.

It's also the part of healing his work focuses on.

The idea behind regenerative options like PRP is to tap into the repair response your body already has and support it.

How much that helps varies from person to person, and what makes sense for you depends on an individual evaluation.

He'll be in the boot a little longer either way.

A cut on your hand bleeds, and that bleeding is part of the repair.

Platelets arrive right where they're needed.

A tendon or a worn patch of cartilage doesn't get that kind of delivery.

As Dr. Derrington explains in another video, those tissues sit at the end of a thin blood supply.

That's the reasoning behind PRP.

The goal is to bring platelets and the growth factors they release to an area that may not get much of either on its own.

How well that works can vary from person to person, and preparation matters.

Dr. Derrington has talked about that too.

So the healed cut on your hand turns out to be a useful way to picture what PRP is designed to do deeper in a joint.

If your MRI report mentioned grade 4 cartilage loss or narrowing of the joint space, you probably read it more than once and then searched every term.

Those details carry weight in how Dr. Derrington thinks about options.

He matches the approach to how far a problem has progressed.

In his experience, PRP is often a good fit for earlier-stage joint and tendon problems.

When imaging shows more advanced damage, such as significant cartilage loss or a larger tear, he describes bone marrow concentrate as something he may add on top of PRP.

Which one fits you is a question for an individual evaluation.

Results vary from person to person, and a report full of scary words is where that conversation starts.

A cell infused into a vein in your arm has a long trip ahead of it before it could reach a worn knee or an irritated disc.

Dr. Derrington's point is that the trip itself is the problem.

The first stop is the heart, then the lungs, where capillaries are narrow enough to hold many of those cells back.

Cartilage, ligaments, tendons and discs sit at the end of a thin blood supply anyway.

So if someone offers you an IV option for a joint or spine problem, it's fair to ask a plain question: how much of it is expected to arrive where you actually hurt?

Where something is placed can matter as much as what it is.

Swapping your "old, tired cells" for younger ones is an appealing idea.

It's easy to see why the pitch works on people who are already hurting.

Dr. Derrington's point is simpler and less comfortable: find out what's actually in the vial.

Before agreeing to any injectable product, it's fair to ask whether it contains living cells and how anyone has confirmed that. It's also fair to ask what safety data exists for that specific product and where it was manufactured.

A good clinician will welcome those questions.

If the answers get vague, or the product keeps changing names, that may tell you something too.

Birthday parties change as you get older and this was my favorite yet. Victoria put together a choose-your-own-adventure day, with options the whole family would all enjoy. Best of all was spending an entire day eating and having fun together. Thank you, babe, for an amazing birthday celebration. Even an overtired kid meltdown couldn't mess up this perfect day.
