Celebrated year round, World Thrombosis Day (WTD) is recognized on 13 October. WTD focuses attention on the often overlooked and misunderstood disease of thrombosis. With thousands of educational events in countries around the world, WTD and its partners place a global spotlight on thrombosis as an urgent and growing health problem. Bringing together communities around the world to

, the quiet, underlying disorder that is the common mechanism of the world’s three top cardiovascular killers – heart attack, stroke and venous thromboembolism (VTE) – the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) launched WTD in 2014. Partnering with thrombosis societies from every continent of the world, the ISTH teams up with continental cardiovascular, neurology and hematology organizations in the effort to educate the public, health care professionals and policy makers about thrombosis risks, prevention and treatment. More than 5,000 partners from every continent of the world have pledged their support to WTD, with more joining every day. For a list of those organizations and for those interested in making the pledge and joining the effort, visit www.worldthrombosisday.org. We invite you to participate! How is antithrombotic stewardship being addressed across Europe?

ISTH and ETHA are launching a new survey to better understand current practices, challenges and opportunities across EU member states to help inform future education, collaboration and policy discussions.

If you work in thrombosis, haemostasis or anticoagulation management, we encourage you to participate.

🚭 Smoking doesn’t just affect your lungs and heart — it also increases your risk of dangerous blood clots.

Smoking can damage blood vessel walls and make blood more likely to clot, raising the risk for serious complications like deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE).

Quitting smoking is one of the most important steps you can take to protect your overall health and support healthier blood flow

✈️ Long flights can increase your risk of blood clots, especially trips lasting more than four hours.

Sitting still for long periods slows blood flow in the legs, which can raise the risk of clotting. Simple movement during travel can help keep your blood circulating.

On your next flight, try:
• Flexing and rolling your ankles
• Walking the aisle when possible
• Staying hydrated
• Asking your doctor about compression stockings for long trips

Safe travels start with healthy movement. Learn more: worldthrombosisday.org

Blood clots can run in families.

If a parent, sibling or close relative had a blood clot before age 50, your own risk may be higher. Knowing your family history can help you and your healthcare team better understand your risk and take steps to protect your health.

💬 Start the conversation with your family and share what you learn with your care team. Awareness can make a difference. Learn more: worldthrombosisday.org
