Stress is a major contributing factor to six of the leading causes of death in the United States — cancer, coronary heart disease, respiratory disorders, liver disease, accidental injuries, and su***de.

Most of us know we're stressed. What most of us don't know is that chronic stress doesn't just affect how we feel. It systematically breaks down every major system in the body — and the adrenal glands are often the first to show the damage.

This week we're talking about adrenal fatigue — what it is, how to recognize it, and what you can do about it naturally.

Your lungs work every minute of every day without you thinking about them — until they don't.

If you deal with any of the following, herbal support may make a real difference:
Asthma or reactive airway disease. Seasonal allergies that affect your breathing. Chronic congestion or mucus you can't clear. Frequent chest colds or respiratory infections. Shortness of breath or reduced stamina. History of smoking or significant pollution exposure.

Mullein is a powerful starting point — but it's one herb among many that support respiratory health. Lungwort lichen, stinging nettle, reishi, and cordyceps each play a different role in calming inflammation, supporting immunity, and helping the lungs heal and function optimally.

At Simply Wild we carry quality herbal products and offer personalized herbal consultations to help you build a protocol that fits your specific health history and goals.

Visit simplywildholistichealth.com to shop our store or book a consultation. We're located at 308 North Main Street in Carroll, Iowa — open Monday through Friday and Saturday by appointment.

Most people don't realize how many things are quietly damaging their respiratory health every single day.

Dust mites, pollen, mold, and pet dander trigger airway swelling and mucus overload — especially in people with asthma. Even scented candles and cleaning sprays can inflame sensitive airways.

Pollution and household toxins chip away at lung tissue over time. You don't have to be a smoker to have lungs that are carrying a heavy toxic burden.
Repeated infections — colds, flu, chest infections — sometimes leave behind scar tissue that traps mucus and narrows airways permanently. This is how bronchiectasis develops, a chronic lung condition most people have never heard of until they have it.

And weight, genetics, and poorly managed chronic conditions all compound the problem.

Lung damage doesn't usually happen overnight. It builds breath by breath until one day the stairs leave you gasping.

The good news is that herbal support — especially herbs like mullein, lungwort lichen, reishi, and stinging nettle — can help protect and repair lung tissue over time.

If respiratory health is a concern for you, book a herbal consultation at simplywildholistichealth.com. We'll build a protocol specific to your situation.

One of the simplest and most effective things you can do for your lungs takes about 10 minutes and costs almost nothing.

Mullein steam inhalation has been used for generations to open airways, break up stubborn mucus, and ease the kind of chest tightness that makes every breath feel like work.

Here is how to do it:
Bring one quart of water to a boil and pour it into a large heatproof bowl. Add one to two cups of dried mullein leaves or flowers and let it steep for one minute. Lean over the bowl about 10 inches away, drape a towel over your head to trap the steam, and breathe deeply through your nose and mouth for five to ten minutes. Whatever breaks loose — blow it out and cough it clear.

The warm steam opens your bronchial tubes and hydrates inflamed tissue. The mullein breaks up mucus and soothes airway irritation simultaneously. People with asthma, chest colds, and chronic congestion use this regularly because it works.
One important note — never microwave the bowl. Uneven heating can cause dangerous steam bursts.
Dried mullein is available in our store at simplywildholistichealth.com or at 308 North Main Street in Carroll.

That tall fuzzy plant with yellow flowers growing along the roadside?

That's mullein — and it's one of the most powerful respiratory herbs in the natural world.

Long before antibiotics existed, mullein was used to treat pneumonia, tuberculosis, asthma, and deep chest infections. Native Americans smoked it for breathing relief. Early settlers brewed it into tea. Herbalists have relied on it for centuries.
Here's what mullein does in the body:
It acts as an expectorant — thinning and loosening mucus so your body can clear it before it becomes a problem. It calms inflammation in the airways, helping open tight, swollen passages. It soothes persistent dry coughs by reducing irritation at the source rather than numbing it. And it contains antioxidants that protect lung tissue from ongoing damage caused by pollution, smoke, and environmental toxins.

If you deal with asthma, allergies, chronic congestion, or frequent chest infections — mullein is worth knowing about.

We carry mullein in our store. Stop by or visit simplywildholistichealth.com.

262 million people worldwide suffer from asthma. Nearly 455,000 die from it every year.

But breathing problems don't start with an attack. They build slowly — through inflammation, mucus buildup, repeated infections, and environmental exposures — until one day your body can't keep up.

Blocked airways don't just affect your lungs. Low oxygen weakens your heart, dulls your brain, disrupts sleep, and drains your energy. In children, untreated asthma can actually stunt lung development.

This week I'm sharing one of my favorite herbs for respiratory health — one that's been used for centuries and is finally getting the scientific attention it deserves.

Stay tuned.

Purslane: The "W**d" That Could Change Your Health

Most gardeners pull it out without a second thought — but purslane may be one of the most nutritious plants on earth.

Our friend David Christopher, MH shares why this humble ground-hugger deserves a place on your plate:

✅ Highest green plant source of omega-3 fatty acids
✅ 6× more beta-carotene than carrots
✅ Rich in vitamins A, C, E, B complex & folate
✅ Contains melatonin, quercetin, dopamine & glutathione
✅ Antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal & anti-inflammatory
✅ Soothes skin, intestines & eyes with its natural mucilage

Gandhi called it his favorite food. Hippocrates would have called it medicine. And it grows freely — no supply chain needed.

Next time you see purslane in your garden, don't pull it. Eat it.

Feeling something coming on? Try this before reaching for the medicine cabinet.

At the first sign of illness:
* Crush fresh garlic and add to soup or broth
* Make fresh ginger tea — slice ginger, simmer 10 minutes, add honey and lemon
* Take elderberry tincture or syrup — a few drops under the tongue
* Start echinacea for one to two weeks
* Raw honey on a sore throat or a spoonful straight

For everyday immune support:
* Add turmeric and black pepper to your meals — the black pepper makes turmeric up to 2,000% more bioavailable
* Cook with garlic and ginger daily
* Consider medicinal mushrooms like Reishi, Turkey Tail, and Cordyceps for deep immune support
