Not a book about ADHD…but last week I reread Fahrenheit 451. And reading this book while trying to cultivate a social media presence for A Little Note...well, it caused a lot of inner reflection😬😅

And perhaps it was guilt over the fact that when the algorithm told me it wanted 7 reels the previous week...I had listened.

Or the recognition that the posts I put the least amount of thought into…get ridiculously more views than the ones I spend days working on...

It just makes you think...

Anyway, I haven’t marked up a book this good in awhile, so if you’re interested in continuing the discussion or sharing your thoughts, I added a “Books Worth Reading” note to our community bulletin board.

This past Sunday at 8:30pm, we had our first…”Oh no! I forgot this was due tomorrow!”

It can be hard not to become frustrated in the moment, but shifting from criticism to support can turn a stressful moment into an opportunity to build confidence rather than shame.

And though it’s important to pull back support when building independence and teaching new skills, it doesn’t mean we can’t step back in. So in our house this week, “I do, we do, you do” became “we do again.”  As the excitement and back to school momentum wears off, remember to revisit those systems and see where a little more support may still be needed.

This is exactly why I don’t just look at whether a child has ADHD, but also how executive functioning shows up in their daily life, along with their learning preferences, and interests. Together we build personalized systems based on their unique strengths and struggles, so we can start working with their brain instead of against it.
