She came to us for PT. This time, she got even more out of it with OT!
~
This sweet girl has joined us for PT intensives before — but this was the first time she was able to pair our PT intensive with our OT program, made possible by our scholarship program.
~
And what we accomplished together stopped us in our tracks.
~
Our OT program is the first of its kind — combining Astronaut Training, Rebound Therapy, and Visual Motor work alongside fine motor skills and ADLs. We’re unlocking the visual piece that most programs aren’t even addressing.
~
Here’s what one intensive looked like for her:
* We started with a full assessment of how the 6 muscles around each eye were moving — helping us understand eye teaming and discover that tracking objects up close was being limited by difficulty aligning her eyes and farsightedness.
* From there, we encouraged consistent wearing of her prescription glasses to address the farsightedness, and began every single session with our Astronaut Training protocol — a program designed to activate the sensory systems and facilitate reflexive eye movements that build toward more intentional tracking and an increased attention span.
* Our skilled OT team then identified the most beneficial ways to integrate vision and motor — building the hand-eye coordination and depth perception she needed to successfully engage with her environment.

The result? Sustained visual engagement — up close — for improved utensil use and real participation in play. 🥄👁️

If I could give every single child who needs this a week like the one she’s about to have — I would do it without blinking.
~
But we can’t. So we created a way to give what we can, and trust that it’s enough.
~
This little girl is just beginning her OT and PT intensive scholarship week at AKAP — our 7th scholarship of 2026 — and we already know what’s coming. We’ve seen it happen six times this year alone.
~
She’s going to surprise us. They always do.
~
That’s the heart of what we call radical acceptance — we’re not coming into this week trying to fix her. We’re meeting her exactly where she is, believing in what her body is already capable of, and creating the space for her to show us what she’s got.
~
The song playing says it all. Trust. Let go. It’s going to be ok.
~
And here at AKAP — we really believe that. We believe giving makes things better. We believe showing up for children who need us makes things better. We believe that when you pour into people, something shifts — for them, and for you.

Intensive therapy changes everything — and Liam is proof.
~
He came back for his second intensive and the growth speaks for itself. His mom said it best — he absolutely adores his therapists, and we absolutely adore him right back. Even through the little bouts of drama. 😄
~
