What an exciting time for Seniors!
I remember my Graduation night, back in 2004 (shut up)
I was laying in the back yard looking at the stars and satellites moving around, listening to probably some insufferable angsty hipster music and wondering what the absolute hell I was supposed to do now because up until twelve hours ago I had to ask permission in class to go p*e, and now I was in charge of my entire adult future? I feel like we missed some crucial steps there.
I know I have more than a handful of clients who are on that same precipice. When I (or the Royal-Millenial-We) were growing up, College was rammed down our throat. If you didn’t get a degree, you might as well not exist.
If expanding your scholastic education is for you, go do that.
But I implore you, if you don’t feel it in your bones, maybe consider some alternatives. Travel while your body is young and your mind is still curious. Make some bad decisions, (the trick is just to not make the same bad decision twice.)
Avoid the temptation of predatory loans, don’t start your life in debt up to your eyeballs if you can avoid it.
But really most of all, just do everything in your power to pursue your happiness for your own sake; I truly believe if you check in with yourself often and ask “is this making me happy?” and if it’s decidedly not; you’ll end up course-correcting pretty quick. Always remember you’re capable of that.
Move forward, or side to side, or even backwards a little bit if you have to, just don’t stand still, okay?
Congratulations to all of you, I’m sorry all this is happening while gas is like, $4.50 a gallon though.
May the odds be ever in your favor
