Charles is excited to be working and building confidence at Independence Landing in Tallahassee. As a person who is blind, Charles has worked with his employU Job Coach, Meagan, to learn how to safely navigate the kitchen and become more comfortable in his role as a dishwasher. With job coaching and practice, he is learning the workplace and showing that blindness does not limit the value he can bring to a team. Charles says he feels “joyous” about working, earning his own money, and getting out into his community. After finding this opportunity in about one month, he is now completing his paid internship and hopes to be hired full-time. Charles is determined to keep learning and continue working at Independence Landing for years to come.

Ethan is building skills, confidence, and independence at Take 5 Car Wash in Niceville. As a person with Cerebral Palsy, Ethan had some concerns about how his mobility might affect him at work, but hands-on experience helped him find ways to move comfortably and build confidence in his abilities. With support from his employU Area Coordinator, Ayden, and experience through paid internships, he learned that his skills could open the door to more types of work than he first expected. Today, Ethan is a Team Member who directs cars through the wash, sells monthly wash plans, and keeps customer areas stocked. His management team has shared that he does a great job selling wash packages. Ethan is also studying at Okaloosa Technical College with a long-term goal of working in cybersecurity. His current job is helping him save for a car and work toward living on his own.

Wendy is proving that a positive attitude can make a big difference. With support from employU and her Employment Specialist, Pattie, Wendy found a role at Panda Express where she enjoys working with both the front and back of the house. Her friendly personality, strong work ethic, and willingness to help have made her a favorite among her teammates. Wendy loves meeting new customers each day and is excited to keep learning new skills, including taking orders and using the cash register. She is also working toward her goal of buying an RV so she can enjoy camping adventures.

Ashanna found more than a job. She found a role where she can grow and make a difference. With support from employU and her Employment Specialist, Connor, Ashanna discovered that working with children at Learning Forward Education Center's STREAM Camp was the right fit for her. As a Summer Camp Counselor, she enjoyed helping campers, working with her team, and taking on new responsibilities each day. Her growth, commitment, and confidence have been inspiring to watch, and she is building skills that will help her in future career opportunities

Andrew is building a bright future one step at a time. With support from employU and his Employment Specialist, Tami, Andrew completed a paid internship at Roses and earned a permanent position as a Retail Associate. Andrew learned valuable workplace skills, gained confidence, and found a job where he enjoys helping customers and working with his team. His hard work, positive attitude, and willingness to learn have made him a valued employee. We are proud of everything Andrew has accomplished and look forward to seeing where his journey takes him next.

employU empowers clients and pushes them to do more than they ever thought they could! Our clients are empowered to develop their skills, build confidence, and showcase their abilities. Isis is a great example of this. Through her work experience at Walgreens, she has strengthened her skills and continues to demonstrate her abilities every day. Isis started with the goal of stocking shelves, but after some encouragement from her Employment Specialist, Meagan, and support from the Walgreens team, she has expanded her role to operating the cash register and helping customers. Her positive attitude and willingness to learn have helped her build confidence and exceed expectations. Isis hopes to join the Walgreens team permanently, and she is already working toward future goals, including buying a car.
