Your kids do NOT need you to be a perfect parent ( a sig that were even possible 🤷‍♂️)

You do NOT need to have all the answers 🙋‍♂️

There is some magic in being comfortable NOT knowing everything

So much of what I talk about with parents every day, I NEVER learned in Medical school or Residency.

All of it, I’ve had to learn on my own or from other experts in areas of nutrition, psychology and spirituality.

Curiosity and willingness to change my views, accept things I didn’t previously understand and integrate new information have been so important in how I show up for families, including my own!

How we respond to anxiety as a Parent can have a LOT to do with whether we help make it better or worse.

It turns out , many of the things we instinctively want to do for our kids when they show us anxious behaviors , although feels natural and “right” ( alleviating their discomfort and accommodating their fears) actually WORSENS their anxiety over time

Dr Eli Lebowitz has researched this idea for years and has created a method to help parents respond to anxiety more intentionally and in a way that actually helps make anxiety better : his book “Breaking Free of Child Anxiety” gives you the script and process to Respond to your child’s anxiety and NOT simply React to it

There are so many emotions I felt as a parent , watching my oldest daughter get married last night

My deepest feelings came from watching my children show up for each other- watching them express their incredible joy and love for their sister hit me the hardest as a Parent

Raising kids is a marathon , there is no such thing as being a perfect parent , the greatest skill is continuing to show up and try to grow through all of the inevitable mistakes and setbacks

The rewards are greater than you can possibly imagine

The day is here ! Maya and Dan are getting married and our joy is overflowing ❤️

We are missing our oldest son Isaac who was unable to make the trip ( he starts his residency in a few days )

Blessing my daughter and her husband that they should build a home filled with love , growth , nurturing ( and lots of grand children👶)

Something I see parents get wrong all the time, and it’s completely preventable. Swipe through. 👆

Your baby’s skin is their largest organ. What touches it gets absorbed. And for the average child, that means 3 years of daily contact with whatever diaper and wipe you choose.

One of the most common mistakes I see in my practice: parents using regular baby wipes on a newborn. The chemicals in those wipes will cause a diaper rash - immediately. Newborn skin is not ready for them.

wipes are as simple as they can be. No harsh chemicals, no hidden irritants. Gentle enough for newborn skin from day one. This is what I recommend.

And right now, we’re giving away a 1-month supply of diapers + wipes to 3 lucky families.

Part 2 of a conversation I’ve been having lately with lots of Parents

Your child doesn’t need to be protected from anxiety. They need to move THROUGH it with you close by

When YOU stay calm in the middle of their storm, you are helping to teach their Brain what safe feels like

Here is what you can do to help your child’s Anxiety

🔵 Name the feeling without amplifying it ( I see you are scared. that makes sense )

🔵 Don’t remove the obstacle, rather stay close while they face it

🔵 Repair after hard moments

🔵 Let them see you handle your hard things with calm

The goal isn’t a fearless child. It’s a child who knows that their fears won’t destroy them

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but most kids don’t need melatonin 💊

Most kids don’t need melatonin and as a pediatrician for 30 years and a dad of 7, this is something I feel strongly about.

Melatonin is a hormone, not a harmless gummy. And in the US it’s completely unregulated, meaning what’s on the label is often not what’s in the bottle.

Before you reach for it, fix the conditions first. The bedtime routine. The screens. The environment. The diet. For most healthy kids, that’s all it takes.

Drop SLEEP in the comments and I’ll send you my free guide on building better sleep habits for your child. And if you want ongoing support, evidence-based answers, and a community of parents who get it, join Raising Well for a 7-day free trial. Link in bio.
