The Eden Health District has taken a leadership role in regional healthcare planning to ensure that the residents of the District continue to have access to quality medical services. The District has the opportunity to work on a regional planning effort to ensure continuity and accessibility to a wide range of health services in central Alameda County. The District’s goal is to bring a long-term commitment to residents of the District – San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Castro Valley, Hayward and surrounding communities – that is accomplished with the District’s investment. A Community Advisory Committee has been established to gather input and make decisions about the future of the District.

Eden Health District Board Chair Ed Hernandez (standing on the right) was named the 2026 Trustee of the Year by the Association of California Healthcare Districts (ACHD) during its 74th Annual Meeting in Monterey on October 8, 2026. The award honors outstanding governance, leadership, and community impact among California’s healthcare district trustees.

During Hernandez’s tenure as Board Chair, Eden Health District has strengthened its financial position, expanded community partnerships, and increased investment in local healthcare.
