Luna has a rare condition is called suprasellar craniopharyngioma. A slow growing tumor, near the pituitary gland (controls all your hormones).
It started with her having headaches a lot for two years and they couldn’t get any answers and FINALLY February 2026 they found the tumor shortly after they went to Primary Children’s in Salt Lake where Luna had a transsphenoidal hypophysectomy (surgery through her nose) to remove the cystic portion of her tumor. Sadly they had to leave the hard portion of her tumor alone because it’s right on top of her pituitary gland and if we took it out she’d be on hormone replacement for the rest of her life.
The plan is for Luna to go to Primary Children’s in Lehi every other Friday for at least the next 3-5 years to get an IV Chemotherapy called Tocilizumab to try to keep her cystic portion from regrowing and keep her hard portion the same size it is until after we can remove it after puberty.
Sadly they had to return to Primary Children’s in Salt Lake on May 30th because her headaches had returned and they found out a small portion of her cystic mass had regrown and was pushing on her ventricles (they naturally drain CF Fluid by) so her CF Fluid was starting to back up which can cause Hydrocephalus (mass buildup of CF in the brain) which if they wouldn’t have done another surgery she would’ve had to have a massive brain surgery. Because it was caught they were able to do neuroendoscopic cyst drainage which is where they drill a hole into her head and place a tube to drain out the cystic tumor. She was sent home on June 4th and is now home recovering. She’ll continue to receive IV Chemotherapy and we pray she’ll be able to make it until after puberty without needing another surgery.
Through it all Luna has remained brave, kind, and always positive❤️😭 — at Mack's Tattoo Shop.
