Tzu Chi USA Mid-Atlantic Region, serving New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware, is one of the nine regions under Tzu Chi USA, which was established in California in 1983. Initially established in 1995 as a Service Center with 150 volunteers meeting in the Wyckoff home of Executive Director Debbie Chen, the organization quickly elevated to Branch Office in 1996 and moved its office to a rented buil

ding in Boonton. In 1997, the Tzu Chi Academy was established to offer Chinese language and cultural classes. A year later, it purchased and moved to its current location, at 150 Commerce Road, Cedar Grove. The Regional Office is further supported by the Central New Jersey Branch Office as well as Service Centers in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Tzu Chi’s missions include charity, medicine, education and humanistic culture. It also promotes environmental protection, bone marrow donation, international relief and community volunteering. Local volunteers provided relief in the aftermath of 9/11 in New York. In cooperation with the New Jersey Food Bank, Tzu Chi volunteers have been running a food pantry at the regional office since 2010. They provide fresh fruits, vegetables, and other food supplies to 1,500 low-income families every month. The food pantry is open every Friday, from 10:30 to 2. We also offer periodic free medical consultations (included vision and dental), SNAP and VITA services, as well as needs-based scholarships to qualified high school graduates. Volunteers regularly visit nursing homes, hospitals and shelters, and participate in other community services such as street cleaning and recycling. For 15 years, Tzu Chi USA Mid-Atlantic Region has served neighbors in need through our weekly food pantry, and on April 10, 2026, that spirit of compassion grew even stronger. ♥️

Nine volunteers from St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church in Cedar Grove, New Jersey, joined hands with Tzu Chi volunteers through the “Shepherds of Service” initiative, creating a beautiful moment of interfaith collaboration and community care. Together, we proved that compassion knows no boundaries.

This past weekend, we joined hands and hearts with the community for a triple celebration honoring Buddha Day, Mother’s Day, and Tzu Chi Day. 💐🙏❤️

This year’s gathering carried special meaning, too, as we also celebrated Tzu Chi’s 60th Anniversary, marking six decades of compassion, humanitarian relief, and service.

Families, volunteers, and neighbors gathered in gratitude to offer prayers for peace and reflect on the spirit of kindness and unity that connects us all. And indeed, throughout the celebration, moments of reflection and heartfelt appreciation abounded, filling the air with warmth and sincerity. May there be peace in our hearts, and blessings for all beings.

Step by step, heart to heart. 🙏

Ahead of the Buddha Day Ceremony, volunteers from the Tzu Chi USA Mid-Atlantic Region gathered at dawn for the annual walking pilgrimage and meditative procession at the New Jersey Jing Si Hall.

With each mindful step and each recitation of the Buddha’s name, participants walked the Bodhisattva Path in reverence, reflection, and gratitude. More than a physical journey, the pilgrimage was a practice of returning to one’s original pure heart: cultivating sincerity, repentance, mindfulness, and compassion.

For over 30 years in New Jersey, this tradition has united the community in prayers for peace, harmony, and a world free from suffering. 🌏🕊️

May we continue to walk steadily with kindness in our hearts, mindfulness in every step, and compassion in action.
