Before You Pick a Political System, You Should Probably Know What It Means

We talk constantly about capitalism, socialism, communism, fascism and democracy. So here’s the very short version:

CAPITALISM: Private ownership, markets and profit.

DEMOCRACY: Political power ultimately comes from the people through meaningful elections, rights and political participation.

SOCIAL DEMOCRACY: Capitalism + democracy + a strong social safety net. Private businesses and markets remain, but with regulations, public programs and protections.

SOCIALISM: A broad family of systems favoring greater social, public or worker ownership/control of the economy.

COMMUNISM: In classical theory, seeks a classless society with the major means of production held in common.

FASCISM: Authoritarian ultranationalism that rejects democratic pluralism and concentrates political power.

And an important distinction:

Universal healthcare, Social Security, public education and other government programs do not automatically equal socialism.

A capitalist democracy can have a strong social safety net. That’s the basic idea behind social democracy.

PAWS 4 REFLECTION

Which of these words immediately activates something in you?

Before reacting, connect with your pet and ask:

Am I responding to the actual idea—or everything I associate with the label?

Pet Medicine isn’t about avoiding disagreement. It’s about getting regulated enough to stay curious while we disagree.

Your pet doesn’t have to be beside you for you to feel connected to them. šŸ¤

That’s one of the things I love most about pet medicine.

You can be sitting in your car.
Waiting for your child.
Having a stressful day.
Taking a walk.
Closing your eyes for a few minutes.

And your animal can still be part of that moment.

You just need to remember that the connection is already there.

✨ You can try all five Pet Medicine practices for free in the Paws for Wellness app.

What’s something your pet does that helps you through a harder day?

Sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself is sit beside the little being who reminds you that life doesn't have to be rushed.

Sometimes the most healing thing you can do…

is stop trying to improve yourself.

We’re so used to thinking we need to be better.

Eat better.
Move more.
Be more productive.
Have more discipline.
Work on ourselves.

And yes—there’s always room to grow.

But growth doesn’t mean you have to be in ā€œself-improvement modeā€ 24/7.

Sometimes your body needs to pause.

Sometimes your nervous system needs a break.

Sometimes you simply aren’t ready yet.

And that’s okay.

Because forcing yourself into the ā€œrightā€ routine when your whole system is saying not right now is not wellness. It’s another form of pressure.

So if you’re in a season of doing less, be careful about calling yourself lazy, unmotivated, or ā€œoff track.ā€

And just like our pet teach us…

there is wisdom in knowing when to move...and when to simply be. 🐾

Situationships are exhausting. šŸ˜‚

Not because every relationship needs a label, marriage, or monogamy. I’m a big believer that relationships can look MANY different ways.

But if you’re spending more time analyzing the relationship than actually enjoying it…that’s information.

Your nervous system wasn’t designed to live on breadcrumbs, mixed signals, and ā€œwhat does this text mean?ā€ šŸ˜µšŸ’«

Before you check their Instagram, reread the conversation, or text your group chat for the 47th analysis…try some Pet Medicine. 🐾

Put down the phone.
Put your hand on your pet.
Breathe.
Come back to yourself.

Then ask: Do I actually want this person—or do I just want the uncertainty to end?

Sometimes your pet can remind you what consistent, safe connection feels like before you go looking for it from someone else.

🐾 Comment ā€œPet Medicineā€ for the free Starter Kit.

Your pet has met the anxious part, the exhausted part, and the part that sings nonsense songs in the kitchen — and stayed connected to all of you anyway.

Parts work isn’t about getting rid of these sides. It’s about getting curious about what they’re trying to do.
